  • At short and medium distances, it is preferable to shoot on full automatic, while moving to make it more difficult for the enemy to hit you.
  • To control the UMP spray that starts to rise up and to the right after the first three shots and then suddenly goes up and to the left, use the following method: say "One, two, three" to yourself while firing. Start aiming for the head by saying "one", then on "two" adjust your aim down and to the left towards the target's biceps, and by "three" continue to pull diagonally down through the torso towards the waist, keeping the aim slightly to the right of the target. This will help you land at least one hit to the head and several to the body.
  • In the Source game, it is not recommended to use spraying at medium distances due to the decrease in accuracy.
  • At very short distances, spraying remains useful, and if you manage to hit the head, the enemy will be instantly destroyed.
  • Use the low movement penalty of the UMP-45 in earlier versions of the game by moving around your opponent closely to take advantage.
  • If you are alone against multiple enemies at close range, it is better to retreat, as the low rate of fire and small magazine capacity make the UMP-45 less suitable for such situations.
  • In versions 1.6 and Condition Zero, after changing weapons or reloading, the first shot from the UMP is perfectly accurate, even while moving or jumping.
  • In the same versions, the UMP-45 is more effective at range compared to other submachine guns, but weapons with a high rate of fire may be more effective at close ranges.
  • Remember to reload frequently, given the small magazine size and relatively long reload time.
