The Tec-9 is a semi-automatic pistol featured in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Counter-Strike 2, exclusive to terrorists. The counterpart for counter-terrorists is Five-SeveN.
Review
The famous Swedish Tec-9 semi-automatic pistol, manufactured by Intratec, became widely recognized in the 1980s and 1990s due to the ease of converting it into an automatic weapon due to the specificity of its open-bolt design. This has led to modified versions being frequently targeted for shooting attacks and crimes, which in turn has made them a prohibited firearm under the Federal Assault Weapons Act of 1994.
In the context of the game, this pistol operates in semi-automatic mode and is equipped with an 18-round magazine. It can be difficult to fire in bursts due to the high recoil, but it has excellent single shot accuracy if the shooter remains stationary. The Tec-9 stands out for its powerful penetration and damage, capable of eliminating a helmeted player with a single headshot, while offering an acceptable magazine capacity, average reload time and a high rate of fire compared to other pistols in the PC version of the game (in console versions the speed shooting below).
Disadvantages include the difficulty of controlling recoil when firing quickly and reduced accuracy while moving, which makes it difficult to use the weapon on the move. Still, the Tec-9 remains one of the preferred choices for budget and pistol rounds.
Usage tactics
With its highly accurate movement and ability to kill with one headshot at short ranges, the Tec-9 requires more careful approach for maximum effectiveness. Using it requires some skill to choose between precision shots and burst fire, which can greatly increase its usefulness in the game. After losing the pistol round, the Tec-9 becomes the optimal choice to buy with armor, especially if the whole team is going to rush.
Interesting details
The Tec-9 stands out from the rest of the arsenal in that it uses 9mm vapor rounds and is capable of killing a fully armored enemy with a single headshot. With the introduction of Operation Breakout, its long-range accuracy was outstanding, but the parameters were later adjusted. Despite its belonging to the terrorist arsenal, promotional materials for Operation Phoenix depict it in the hands of a counter-terrorist. Interestingly, the Tec-9's UI icon displays it with a shorter magazine than it had before the game change, when the magazine could hold up to 32 rounds, making it the highest-capacity pistol before its capacity was reduced.
Behind the scenes
The Tec-9 was originally developed as a submachine gun for the alpha version of CS:GO, but by the beta version it was reclassified as a pistol, despite the presence of a model for a submachine gun in the game files. The Alpha version featured a bluer hue in the design compared to the modern gray or black.
