Valve developers continue to work on resolving the input lag issue in Dota 2. Company representative Jeff Hill announced on Reddit that along with patch 7.38b, the team released an update aimed at eliminating one of the possible causes of lag experienced by some players.
What has changed?
New code to reduce lag – Valve has made adjustments intended to improve the overall game response to player actions.
New console command – introduced dota_report_order_latency, which will help players independently check the level of lag without the need for video recording and frame counting.
When using dota_report_order_latency, the player receives an accurate assessment of the total click latency. According to Jeff Hill, the expected values are up to 100 ms + ping time. Additionally, there may be a deviation within 66 ms or more if there is packet loss or unstable ping.
This change is expected to improve the gaming experience, especially for those encountering delays during command execution. However, since the input lag issue can have multiple causes, Valve will continue to analyze the situation and release additional updates.
If you notice improvements or new issues after the update, the developers advise sharing your observations through official feedback channels.
