Info
The world-renowned Korean team Gen.G Esports Valorant created its Valorant division in 2020. Prior to that, it was widely known in other disciplines, particularly in League of Legends, but after several years, they made their mark on the FPS scene.Starting their journey in North America, the team initially struggled and had weak results. However, with their move to the Pacific region, the Gen.G Esports players were finally able to truly showcase their potential.
One of the team's first breakthroughs came with a 3rd place finish at VCT 2021: North America Stage 1 Masters, where they were defeated by FaZe Clan in the lower bracket. Throughout the remainder of the season, Gen.G Esports consistently placed between 5th and 6th in the VCT 2021: North America Stage 3 Challengers tournaments.
The 2022 season was one of the worst in the team's history. The Gen.G Esports roster at the time (gMd, Shawn, koosta, NaturE, and rhyme) posted their lowest-ever performance, which led the management to make the decision to disband the team completely.
2024 became the most successful year in the club's history. With the addition of talents like Meteor, t3xture, Lakia, Munchkin, and Karon, Gen.G Esports finally began to make a name for itself on the international stage. Their participation in the VCT 2024: Masters Madrid final was the first sign of the team's success, as they secured 2nd place. Afterward, they went on to have even more intense matches at VCT 2024: Masters Shanghai, where they emerged victorious and claimed the title of champions.
However, the 2024 year ended there for Gen.G Esports. Despite participating in VALORANT Champions 2024, held in their home country, the team finished 10th at the tournament, getting eliminated in the group stage.
By the end of 2023, the Korean organization Gen.G Esports had fully formed its competitive roster. However, the club's management demoted head coach Kim "HSK" Hae-seong and replaced him with Kang "solo" Keun-chul, who led them throughout the VCT 2024 season.
Kim "HSK" Hae-seong's successes as head coach were quite significant. Under his leadership, the team placed 4th in the regular season of VCT 2023: Pacific League and secured 3rd-4th place in the interseasonal Convergence 2023. On the other hand, the new head coach, Kang "solo" Keun-chul, previously managed the Dplus team, which achieved incredible results in 2023, winning both stages of VALORANT Challengers 2023: Korea, but failing at the main Ascension Pacific tournament.
Gen.G Esports has confidently made its mark on the international scene and is ready to take on new challenges in the upcoming schedule of VCT seasons. The club's management has shown the ability not only to form solid rosters but also to choose the right coaches for them. All of this gives fans of the Korean club reason to expect even more victories and greater achievements in the future.
