Spike Rush mode in Valorant: Rules and all Powerup Orbs
Spike Rush mode in Valorant: Rules and all Powerup Orbs

As of today, Valorant offers 8 different game modes, each with unique gameplay elements. Among the available modes are the standard Unrated and Competitive modes, which do not feature various unique elements. The Premier mode focuses on professional tournament play with its own rankings, divisions, and more. However, besides the simple modes, Valorant also features unusual modes with various gameplay innovations and bonuses that players use during the match. One such mode is Spike Rush, which is a faster version of the regular Unrated mode. Today, the Bo3 editorial team has prepared a material for you, in which we will talk about the Spike Rush mode in Valorant, its rules, and the features available in it.

What is the Spike Rush mode?

Spike Rush is an in-game mode that appeared in Valorant with patch 1.0, along with the official release of the game. Since then, the mode has been continuously available in the game, but developers occasionally made some changes and various features to improve the balance. The last update for Spike Rush was in patch 5.01, which was released on July 12, 2022, and since then the mode has not received any new additions. Spike Rush is a sped-up version of the standard modes where attacking players need to plant the Spike, and the defending side needs to prevent them or defuse the bomb if it has been planted. Players also receive rewards in the form of XP and Kingdom Credits for participating in the mode, and daily and weekly tasks can be completed in Spike Rush.

Features of Spike Rush mode

As mentioned above, Spike Rush differs from the standard mode with its fast gameplay. This is made possible by certain changes. First of all, the preparation time for rounds and the rounds themselves are shortened in this mode. The pre-round in this mode lasts 20 seconds instead of the usual 30, and the round itself lasts 80 seconds instead of the standard 100. Additionally, the number of rounds is also reduced. Instead of the usual 13 rounds, Spike Rush is played up to 7 rounds, and the team that first wins 4 rounds is victorious. Although this puts attacking players at a disadvantage because they have less time to plant the Spike, the developers compensated for this by giving each attacking player their own Spike.

Since the number of rounds is much smaller and players don't have time to earn credits for weapons, in Spike Rush, weapons are given automatically. All participants receive the same weapon and armor, which are chosen randomly, at the beginning of the round. Here’s how it works:

First round - Random pistol from the list: Classic, Shorty, Frenzy, Ghost, Sheriff, no armor.

Second round - Random weapon costing 2050 or less: Stinger, Spectre, Bucky, Judge, Bulldog, Marshal, Ares, with Light Shields for 25 damage.

Third round - Random weapon costing 2250 or more: Guardian, Phantom, Vandal, Outlaw, Operator, Odin, with Heavy Shields for 50 damage.

Also, at the beginning of each round, players automatically receive all their abilities except the ultimate. To gain their ultimate ability, players need to make more kills, as the Ultimate orb has been removed from the map. Now, players are given +2 points for killing enemies instead of +1, as in the standard mode.

Powerup Orbs in Spike Rush mode

As mentioned earlier, the Ultimate orb has been removed from the map, and instead, Powerup Orbs are now in their place. These are multi-colored orbs that appear in certain places on the map at the beginning of each round. Their number is randomly chosen from 1 to 5, and capturing an orb gives the player certain bonuses, as well as +1 point to their ultimate ability. Each orb has its own effect that enhances the agent who captures it. There are a total of 10 different effects that can appear in an orb, but only 5 of them are available, and the effects are randomly chosen before the match begins.

  • Combat Stim - Provides the player with a combat stimulator that increases their firing speed, reload speed, movement speed, ability recharge speed, and jump height.
  • Crippling Decay - After capturing the orb, all opponents receive 50 damage over 8 seconds. Cannot appear simultaneously with the Paranoia effect.
  • Damage Amp - The player receives an effect that increases all their damage by 30% until the end of the round.
  • Golden Gun - Replaces the player's weapon with a unique Golden Gun that deals 800 damage to the head and 200 damage to the legs and body.
  • Health Regen - After capturing the orb, all allies and the player themselves regenerate 10 health per second for 20 seconds while out of combat.
  • Paranoia - All opponents' vision is reduced, and their minimap becomes unavailable. Cannot appear simultaneously with the Crippling Decay effect.
  • Tracer Rounds - Gives all allies and the player a bonus that doubles weapon penetration and highlights enemies hit for 0.75 seconds.
  • Twin Hunters - Summons two wolves that chase the two nearest enemies and slow them down. The wolves have 100 HP and can be destroyed.
  • Ultimate Ability - Gives the player who received the bonus a full ultimate charge.

Weapon Upgrade - Provides the player with a better weapon than the one they are holding at the time of capturing the orb. If the player has an Operator, they receive a random additional weapon, except for the Golden Gun.

Community's attitude towards Spike Rush

Spike Rush is not one of the most popular modes in the Valorant community. Unlike the Snowball Fight mode, which players love, few mention Spike Rush on various forums and discussion platforms. Players do not regularly request developers to update the mode and often simply do not pay attention to it. However, despite this, many players play this mode, and match search times rarely exceed one minute. Overall, Spike Rush can be described as something in between the most popular and the least popular modes.

Conclusion

After reading our material, you now know what the Spike Rush mode is, its rules, and the features available to players. The mode is not mandatory, but if you are tired of the Competitive mode, you can relax and complete tasks in Spike Rush.
