Best spots on the Sunset map in Valorant for the defense side

We continue to inform our readers about the best positions on all maps in Valorant for both attack and defense sides. Today, let's discuss the Sunset location, one of the latest maps in the game, introduced in August 2023 with update 7.04. The Sunset map is quite classic, with two Spike planting sites, no portals or zip lines, and its only unusual feature is mechanical doors, similar to those on the Ascent map. All these aspects make it an excellent map for the defense side, which we will detail below. The Bo3 editorial team has prepared material on the best positions on the Sunset map in Valorant for the defense side.

Point A

1

The first position at the A plant is located right after the wall that divides the map before the round begins. Although you can only access this spot after the barrier disappears, the same is true for the attackers. With quick reactions and actions, you can reach the position faster than your opponents. From this spot, you can control one of the pathways leading to the plant using the wall as cover. Moreover, an important aspect of this point is the Ultimate orb, which you can use as bait. You just need to hide behind the wall quietly, then, relying on sound, emerge and take down an enemy attempting to pick up the orb. Alternatively, if there are no enemies, you can pick it up yourself to gain valuable ultimate points.

2

The next spot is close to the previous one and can be used if you don’t reach the first position in time. From here, you also control the narrow passage, but additionally, you have a view over a larger part of the Spike planting site. This position is safer and more secure than the previous one because it's harder to cut you off from your team, and you can almost always retreat to the plant. If you plan to hold your ground and meet the opponents, it is recommended to occupy the corner on the left, marked with a blue arrow. From this position, you can wait for enemies securely, and if they fail to check your corner, you can stop their attack with precise shots or buy enough time for your allies.

3

The next spot near the A plant is quite open and risky, mostly used for controlling the central part of the map. From this point, you can monitor the passageway coming from mid to prevent enemies from flanking your team and catching you by surprise. Additionally, you can turn left to also partly watch the plant in case enemies attack from one direction only. However, as mentioned earlier, the main issue with this position is its openness. There is almost no cover, and the only thing that will protect you from enemies behind is a narrow part of the wall. Thus, if enemies have already entered plant A, and some opponents are rotating from plant B, you will find yourself caught between two fires and likely have no retreat. Therefore, this position is considered situational, and if you want to control the mid passage, it is advisable to consider the next point.

4

As stated above, the next position also allows you to control the passage from mid but is much safer than the previous one. This point is located in a corner of the plant itself, shielded by a box that automatically covers your back and side, preventing enemies from surprising you. It’s sufficient if one of your allies watches your back so you can focus all your attention on the mid passage. Also, note that you always have the option to retreat further into the depths of plant A to take a safer position and wait for the enemies.

5

The last position is a bit further from plant A and allows you to control the central part of the map. This position is also situational because you will likely be alone here, while your allies control both plants. However, from this position, you can stop the enemies' advancement to one of the Spike planting points or simply delay them. This will force the attacking players to rotate or try to eliminate you, thereby buying precious time for the defense team.

Point B

1

The first point at the B plant is located in a small room near the Spike planting site itself. From here, you can control the passage from the central part of the map, where enemies are likely to advance. The main tool to help you in this is the automatic doors leading to mid. At the beginning of the round, it’s recommended to immediately close them, so you always know if enemies are trying to break through. Additionally, from this position, you can partially control plant B itself, and if opponents have already entered the position, you can move to this spot to try to defend the site more safely. Moreover, you can always retreat since you are protected by a large blue box located in the middle of the room.

2

The second point is located just after exiting the spawn point for the defense and is positioned higher off the ground. Any agent can reach it by jumping onto two boxes. The peculiarity of this position is that, despite being far from the plant, you can partially monitor the Spike planting site. To do this, you need to move as far to the right edge of the box as possible, from where you will monitor the passages. But this feature is also the main problem because it is quite difficult to kill enemies with ordinary weapons from such a distance. Therefore, it is recommended to use sniper rifles, including the Operator. With them, you can effectively kill enemies from a safe distance and protect your plant.

3

While on this position, you can perform the same function as on the previous point, but you are not limited in your choice of weapons. From here, you can also control two approaches to the plant, but the distance to the enemies will be medium, so you do not necessarily need to use sniper rifles. Using regular rifles, you can effectively stop enemies, and in case of danger, hide behind the wall on the right. Also, if enemies have already entered the plant, you can retreat back to your spawn to try to save your weapons and abilities for the next round.

4

The first aggressive position at the B plant, located right after the invisible barrier that separates the attack and defense sides before the round begins. The peculiarity of this point is that it allows you to play more aggressively and meet enemy agents first, which can certainly surprise your opponents. Also, right at this position, an Ultimate orb is placed, so it can be a small reward for you if you manage to defend the passage. But the main downside of this position lies in its proximity to the enemies. Most likely, your allies will not follow you, and you will have to defend the passage alone. Therefore, if you are not confident in your abilities, it is better not to venture too deep.

5

The last position at the B plant, located right on the Spike planting site itself, in a corner on one of the boxes. This point is quite unusual because while you are on it, you have no opportunity to hide or retreat. As long as you and your team control both passages, everything remains under control, but as soon as enemies start advancing from two directions simultaneously, you will face serious problems, and there will be almost no chance to escape.
