On December 10, developers from NetEase Games released a major patch for Marvel Rivals, the recently launched team-based PvP shooter. The update is now available on all platforms, fixing several bugs, crashes, gameplay instabilities, and a balance issue with Doctor Strange. Below, you can find a description of the main changes and fixes in the new Marvel Rivals patch.
General Fixes:
- Addressed the issue of significant aim deviation and potential delays during the playback of best moments and game recordings.
- Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when changing the location of video recordings.
- Ensured proper display of hero costumes for substitute players who join quick matches.
- Fixed display errors of mission progress on the seasonal event screen.
- Eliminated several text errors, with more fixes planned for future updates.
- Improved game stability, resolved common crashes, and ensured correct game termination after a crash.
Maps and Game Modes:
- Fixed issues on maps like Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven and Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface, where special edge collisions caused characters to get stuck or pass through terrain. However, the issue may be present on other maps or terrains. Developers will work on this.
- Resolved the issue of fog disappearing from Hela's and Storm's perspectives during their ultimates on foggy sections of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda maps, and corrected the visibility of Jeff the Shark's Joyful Splash effect after respawning.
- Eliminated lighting anomalies and desynchronization of door display accuracy on the Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven – Frozen Airfield map during competitive matches.
- Fixed issues on the Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven – Eldritch Monument map, where heroes could get stuck under the terrain while moving the target area; this particularly affects heroes, their abilities, or combinations like Adam Warlock, Thor/Loki and Hela, Jeff, Winter Soldier.
- In the third round of Competitive Convoy or Convergence modes, heroes no longer retain ultimate ability energy from the second round.
Fixes for Specific Heroes:
- Wolverine: Fixed missing ability voiceovers when using the Deadpool & Wolverine costume.
- Star-Lord: Fixed missing sound effects on the results screen after using the MVP animation from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
- Iron Fist: Ensured activation of appropriate voice lines when using pings.
- Black Widow: Fixed ADS sensitivity description in settings and issues with ultimate ability energy recovery.
- Captain America: Resolved situations where the ultimate ability did not finish properly.
- Doctor Strange: Disabled the binding of knockouts through portals to terrain to fix unintended ultimate ability energy recovery. A full fix is planned for a future update.
Platform Fixes:
- PC: Fixed memory leaks and model blurring caused by resolution changes using FSR 3 frame generation technology.
- Consoles: Fixed an issue where the Scarlet Spider costume from the PlayStation bundle did not display properly after restarting the game.
End of Doctor Strange's Overpowered Bug
Doctor Strange turned out to be one of the complex yet strongest heroes in Marvel Rivals, capable of causing a lot of trouble for the opposing team and characters with his abilities. However, an additional strength was given to him by one of the bugs that was present in the game until now.
Players who played as the Supreme Sorcerer could use his portal to gain a fully charged ultimate at the very start of a match. The trick was to place one portal near the spawn point and the other beyond the edge of the map, forcing allies to voluntarily jump into the abyss. Strangely, these team knockouts counted towards charging Doctor Strange's ultimate, giving him a significant advantage from the first seconds of the game.
"When Doctor Strange's portals caused knockouts through terrain, they mistakenly restored his ultimate energy," explained NetEase Games.
"For a temporary resolution to this issue, we've disabled the counting of knockouts through terrain for Doctor Strange's portals (i.e. such knockouts will no longer be counted as his own). Don't worry, we're working on a permanent fix for this bug and will restore the counting of knockouts in a future update," added the developers.
While this update resolves a number of issues, the developers of Marvel Rivals remain committed to eliminating residual bugs and improving gameplay in future patches. For now, players can expect a smoother and more stable gaming experience across all platforms.
