In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, after completing the intense and action-packed mission Storm, players have the opportunity to unwind a bit during the quest The Sword and the Quill. In this mission, Henry (Indro) travels to Suhdol with Captain Zizka and Katerina, while Hans Capon (Jan Ptacek) remains captive under Lord von Bergow. The mission primarily involves dialogues and interactions, with the only combat being a friendly, non-lethal duel.

Journey with Zizka and Katerina to Suhdol

The quest begins with Henry, Captain Zizka, and Katerina heading to Suhdol on horseback and wagon. The journey is peaceful, but players can engage in casual conversations or even flirt with Katerina. Upon arriving in town, the group is met by Lord Pishek, who invites everyone to a banquet in the great hall.

Dinner with Lord Pishek

Once in the banquet hall, Henry and his companions can eat their fill. It's worth taking this opportunity to increase satiety to 100. After the meal, a long conversation with Lord Pishek ensues, during which Henry shares recent events. Eventually, Pishek advises him to wash up before going to bed.

Night Bath

The bathhouse is located in the courtyard, and by talking to the bathmaid, Henry can clean up. A neat appearance boosts reputation among the nobility, which will be useful in future dialogues.

Before heading to his room, Henry can talk to Katerina once more. If his Impression skill exceeds 20, he can ask her, "May I join?" However, even if successful, this action only increases reputation without leading to a romantic development.

After preparing, Henry goes to sleep in his room on the second floor. This automatically saves the game and triggers a scene where a maid wakes him with news: Margrave Jobst wants to speak with him.

Unique Interaction: Confrontation with Captain Frentzl

Before meeting with Jobst, Henry can participate in a conversation between Katerina and Captain Frentzl near the dueling arena. The discussion concerns the fortress, and Henry can respond in two ways:

• "Your garrison is impressive" — this response pleases the captain but disappoints Katerina.
• "Your garrison is a joke" — this response amuses Katerina and leads to a challenge.

If Henry chooses the latter, Frentzl challenges him to a duel with one of his best soldiers. The fight is non-lethal: the first to receive a wound loses. Using Master Strike (learned from Tomcat) greatly simplifies this duel.

Victory earns Henry an Embellished Field Crossbow from Katerina. If the player loses, it won't affect the quest's progress, but they won't receive the reward.

Conversation with Zizka

After the duel, approach Zizka, who can be found by the fireside in the courtyard. He informs that Jobst wants to speak with Henry alone and refuses to accompany him. No dialogue option can change his decision.

Meeting with Margrave Jobst

In the banquet hall, Henry meets with Jobst, and the conversation focuses on political intrigues and Hans Capon's fate. The Margrave is indifferent to the situation and believes Capon's parents should pay the ransom. Any attempts to persuade him to help fail.

At some point, Jobst asks if Henry revealed anything under torture in von Bergow's prison. Players with a high Speech level can lie, but if the skill is not sufficiently developed, it's better to tell the truth.

Zizka's Anger and the Fate of Dry Devil

Just as the conversation ends, Zizka storms into the hall in fury: he's learned that Jobst refused to shelter the Dry Devil. This means the group lost an important lead.

Finally, Zizka makes a decision: Katerina heads to Kutna Hora to search for Hans Capon, while he and Henry start pursuing the Dry Devil. This concludes the quest The Sword and the Quill, opening the next main mission — Speak of the Devil.
