Sentinels defeat DRX, while EDward overcomes Trace in Chinese duel - Results of the first day of the Valorant Champions 2024 playoffs

The group stage of Valorant Champions 2024 has concluded, leaving only the top 8 teams out of the original 16 participants. Yesterday, two matches took place on the first day of the playoffs, and we will tell you about the results below.

Sentinels vs DRX

The first match featured a clash between the American top team Sentinels and the Korean representatives DRX. Although the Sentinels were considered favorites, this was a home tournament for DRX, and fan support could have played a significant role. However, despite this, no major upset occurred. The Korean team fought hard on the first map, Sunset, but lost in overtime, 13-15. On the second map, Haven, the match favorites, Sentinels, dominated confidently, winning with a score of 13-8.

EDward Gaming vs Trace Esports

The second match featured a Chinese derby between two teams from the same region. However, unlike the previous clash, the result here was quite predictable. EDward Gaming is the favorite of the Chinese region and the strongest team, while Trace only ranks in the top 5. As expected, the main contenders for victory emerged as winners on two maps, Bind 13-7, and Sunset 13-10.

As a result of these matches, Sentinels and EDward Gaming advance to the upper bracket semifinals, where they will face each other on August 17 in a match for a spot in the final. Trace Esports and DRX drop to the lower bracket, where they will also face each other on August 16, fighting for the right to continue their journey in the tournament.

Valorant Champions 2024 is taking place from August 1 to 25, 2024, in Seoul. The 8 partnered teams remaining after the group stage continue to compete for a total prize pool of $2,250,000, as well as the title of world champion and the strongest team for the coming year.
