VALORANT players criticize surrender system: community demands changes

The surrender system in VALORANT has once again come under scrutiny after a player criticized its functionality on Reddit. He claimed that the mechanic is poorly implemented and does not allow for fair match conclusions in unbalanced situations, such as 3v5 scenarios.

His post sparked widespread discussion among players, many of whom supported the idea of revising the surrender system.

Players Demand Automatic Match Termination

Reddit user Pretend-Situation-15 shared his negative experience in a match where his team was at a numerical disadvantage.

We started the game well, but one teammate lost connection, and another went AFK. By round seven, we were already playing 3v5. I tried to surrender, but my teammates refused. What's the point of continuing in such conditions?

He also suggested implementing an automatic match termination feature if a player goes AFK in the early rounds, similar to the system in Marvel Rivals.

Why can't VALORANT automatically end matches if a player goes AFK right at the start? Or at least allow a majority vote for surrender?

The Community Is Divided

The post ignited heated discussions within the community. Some players supported the criticism of the surrender system.

For example, Karma-69op expressed frustration over losing ranked rating (RR) even in matches where victory is impossible.

The worst part isn’t even playing 3v5—it’s losing -27 RR for an inevitable defeat. It just doesn’t make sense!

Others, however, believe that automatic match termination could lead to abuse.

Player BLAZEDbyCASH explained why Riot Games might be hesitant to introduce such a system:

If the game ended every time someone went AFK, players could exploit it to dodge unfavorable matches. Riot has probably analyzed the data and knows that many players eventually return to the game.

Additionally, OriginalWynndows countered the post author’s complaints about instalockers (players who instantly pick a specific agent).

Just because someone instalocks doesn’t mean they’ll be a bad teammate. It just shows they are confident with that agent.
