VCT Pacific and Americas: Group Format Experiment Fails?

Recently, the first seasons of leagues in various regions have started, and two of them stood out with their unusual imbalance between two groups of teams. At the VCT 2024 Pacific Stage 1 and VCT 2024 Americas Stage 1 tournaments, there is a significant advantage in one of the groups.

As of April 8, in VCT Pacific, Group Omega, and in VCT Americas, Group Alpha, showed impeccable results, creating a situation where some teams, such as Gen.G, FURIA, and MIBR, automatically take first place without playing a single match.

The experimental cross-group format of VCT Stage 1, based on the Kickoff results, failed to ensure an even distribution of strength between groups, leading to imbalance in two regional tournaments. Therefore, to ensure fairness in VCT Pacific, a new rule was introduced for the playoffs: teams must have at least two wins to qualify for the playoffs, otherwise they may be replaced by a team from another group with similar results.

This imbalance in results draws attention to future matches and performance prospects at the VCT Pacific and Americas tournaments.
