Paper Rex discusses potential roster changes after elimination from VALORANT Champions 2024

At the VALORANT Champions 2024 tournament in Korea, Paper Rex secured a victory against FUT Esports but lost to G2 Esports and EDward Gaming, leading to their elimination in the group stage. Since then, there has been active discussion on social media about potential roster changes.

The discussion began with a post from a user on X asking:

How should PRX change their roster? Should mindfreak be replaced? Or, to expand the agent pool, should Jinggg or someone else be removed? Is there a need to find a new IGL? What should be the next steps?

Expert and Analyst Opinions

Notable figures such as Lothar, official commentator for VCT EMEA 2024, and Chubbyninja, host of VCT PACIFIC 2024, responded to the post.

Lothar commented:

No one should be fired. All players are very talented. The main tasks for the team are to improve basic practice, correct in-game mistakes such as unnecessary actions and improper use of numerical advantages. Additionally, Jinggg should continue picking Raze on all maps. Criticism of the team has remained unchanged for three years, and improvements are needed in basic aspects.

He also added that expanding Jinggg agent pool is not the main reason for their losses:

Most teams have issues with basic skills, and even if the agent pool is fixed, it won’t solve the core problem.

In response to suggestions about hiring a performance coach and expanding Jinggg agent pool, Chubbyninja shared:

I like the idea of Sliggy, but it’s hard to imagine how he would fit into PRX’s chaotic culture. I think he prefers a more calm atmosphere.

Season Results and Team’s Future

In the 2024 season, Paper Rex showed impressive results: second place at VCT Pacific Kickoff, victory at Stage 1, and third place at Stage 2. At international tournaments, the team placed third at Masters Madrid and sixth at Masters Shanghai. However, at the current VALORANT Champions 2024, they finished the tournament in 9th-12th place. After three years without changes to the main roster, adjustments to the team may be on the horizon for the next season. Stay tuned for further updates.
