Right at the start of the Battlefield 6 marketing campaign, DICE found itself at the center of a major scandal. Yesterday’s official announcement regarding changes to the game’s class system sparked a wave of negativity among the series’ devoted fans.
According to the developers, in the new Battlefield, any class will be able to use any weapon — sniper rifles, assault rifles, machine guns, or pistols will be available to all without restrictions. This change, which DICE presented as an "expansion of player freedom," turned out to be extremely unpopular among the community.
Fans demanded a return to the classic system from BF3 and BF4, where weapon types were clearly separated by class: medic, engineer, assault, sniper. They believe that the simplification of roles and the universalization of characters was one of the main reasons for Battlefield 2042’s failure.
“A medic with a sniper rifle is absurd. A sniper with an assault rifle is even worse. DICE doesn’t learn,” write outraged users on Reddit and in the series’ Discord channels.
Phrases like “Just make Battlefield” and “Why can’t DICE be normal?” are currently topping the discussion threads.
While the developers have yet to comment on the negative reaction, the community has already begun demanding changes — even a return to the classic system through a patch or a separate mode. If things continue like this, Battlefield 6 risks repeating the fate of its unsuccessful predecessor even before launch.
