CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 4 is being developed with consoles in mind first, aiming for 60 FPS on PS5 using Unreal Engine 5. Do you think focusing on PlayStation first is the right move after the Cyberpunk launch mess, or should PC always come first for CDPR?

I get why they’re focusing on consoles—after Cyberpunk, they can’t afford another bad launch. But I hope they don’t dumb down the PC version just to make the console version work.

If it runs well on PS5, it’ll run even better on PC. I’m fine with that.

It’s smart from a development perspective. If it runs stable at 60 FPS on PS5 with UE5 features like Lumen and Nanite, scaling it up for PC will be much easier.

Not a fan. CDPR should stick to their roots—PC first, then scale down.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Starting with a strong console base doesn’t mean the PC version will suffer. CDPR knows their PC audience expects more, and they’ve said they’ll push ray tracing and ultra settings hard. Let’s see.

I get the logic, but I still think PC should come first — especially for a studio like CDPR. The Witcher franchise was built on the PC player base. Consoles are stable, sure, but they’re also limited. If you start with PS5 as your ceiling, you’re designing downward from day one. Better to build big on PC and optimize later. That’s how Witcher 3 became a classic.

Ah yes, because after Cyberpunk 2077 launched on consoles like a flaming dumpster rolling downhill, what better way to rebuild trust than by saying, “Don't worry, this time we're crashing the party on PlayStation first!” 😏
