After the release of the eighth episode, which brought many changes to Valorant, a part of the game's community, not seeing the necessary innovations, once again turned to the developers. This time, users focused on the replay system, which was promised by Riot Games a long time ago.
In the largest information community on Reddit dedicated to Valorant, a user with the nickname Huhaizen once again raised the issue of replays. He complains that developers release skins worth $100 each month, which he admittedly exaggerated. However, the necessary replay system still cannot appear in Valorant. The player also asked in the comments whether it is really so difficult to create a replay system, and it turns out it is. One of the users, who is familiar with the development of such systems, explained that it is a very difficult and laborious process.
A participant with the nickname SaltMaker23 explained that it is indeed very difficult to execute, because there are many moments that can lead to hacking and data loss. Later, the reader step by step described the problems developers face and listed a series of actions that need to be taken by the developers.
First - there are many things related to providing replays that neither Riot nor Vanguard (the anti-cheat team) want to openly share; it's a complicated line to draw. These replay files may contain valuable information that cheat developers could use, for example, they would have to create a separate system from their internal one, which contains many things, including AC ratings and more. Accidental disclosure of some Vanguard information could greatly help cheat developers.
Next - the user interface: to use these replays, you need a good player, otherwise all the threads on YouTube and Twitter will criticize you about your bad replay system.
Third, the server: Valorant as a 128 tick, multi-agent game, replays will be quite large. This opens two main problems: storage and bandwidth. They will need to store them properly, which is not insignificant, and people downloading replays will also create a huge bandwidth load to these servers.
Fourth, local storage: replays will need to be stored locally somehow, and this will lead to the creation of ever-growing folders for storing replays, this also needs to be dealt with. Many random people with their 20-year-old laptop won't understand that their 100 replays of 200 MB, which they download every day, are filling up their computer. They're going to blame Riot or Vanguard for "hacking"/"breaking"/"slowing down" their computer on YouTube/Twitter/Reddit.
Although SaltMaker23's arguments sound quite logical, and many participants support him, there are those who disagree. They assure that considering the number of employees and resources available to Riot Games, in four years of the game's existence, the system could have been created many times. Like most such discussions, they will most likely remain without a response from the developers, so ordinary players are left to just wait.
