The regular season of VCT in the Pacific region has only just begun, but favorites and underdogs have already become known to the viewers. Today, the Korean team Gen.G Esports successfully won the decisive match of the Pacific Kickoff group stage, thereby advancing to the next stage of the play-in and becoming one of the tournament favorites.
It should be noted that this year's Kickoff tournaments have a changed format. Due to the participation of 11 partner teams, the total number is odd, so one of the groups contains only 3 clubs. As a result, the organizers added a play-in stage, which will determine the last participants of the playoff stage.
Gen.G Esports played three quite tense matches. Initially, the team overcame the clear underdogs Rex Regum Qeon with a score of 2-1, but later lost to the main favorites and finalists of the world championship Paper Rex, with a score of 1-2. In the decisive match, the team again faced Rex Regum Qeon and again defeated the opponents, albeit not without a struggle, with a score of 2-1. Thanks to this, the team received the first slot in the play-in stage, where it will wait for future opponents to be determined.
Remember, VCT 2024: Pacific Kickoff is taking place from February 17 to 25, 2024. 11 partner teams are fighting for two invitations to the upcoming Masters Madrid, as well as 3 Pacific Points, which are necessary for qualifying for the world championship.
