The recent addition of the Memento map to CS2's playable list has been a significant highlight, especially with the revelation that one of its creators is the Ukrainian developer, Timur. In an exclusive interview with the CS2 UA Telegram channel, Timur shared his journey and the creation process of the map which began as an idea for a wedding resort theme in Italy's Lake Como, envisioned by his teammate Madsen.
Timur, originally from Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, and now based in the UK, has been involved in map creation for about seven years. His journey began with simple creations in a game editor and evolved into a more serious endeavor, ultimately leading to professional map development. The entire development cycle of Memento spanned approximately a year and a half, transitioning from CS's old engine to the latest in CS2.
The young developer described his elation when he first learned that Valve was interested in integrating their map into CS2, a moment of pride and validation for him and his team. Timur’s current role extends beyond mapping as he has recently started working as a 3D Environment Artist in a European studio.
One of the more playful yet impressive details about the map is a Star Wars easter egg, incorporated by Madsen, a testament to the team's creativity and personal interests.
Timur’s journey from a hobbyist map-maker to a recognized developer in the CS community is a powerful reminder of where passion and persistence can lead. His work on Memento not only enriches the gaming community but also sets a promising trajectory for his future endeavors in the gaming industry.
