Twitter user discovers a vulnerability that disables all background sounds on all maps

Twitter user dea_bb has discovered a vulnerability that allows you to disable all background sounds on all CS2 maps before restarting the game itself. This bug could drastically change the flow of both the cyber-sport and the game itself, leaving only the sounds produced by players.

Dea_bb shared a way that allows you to radically change the audio in Counter-Strike 2. Just go to a certain workshop map named stopsound and exit it to disable all ambient sounds on all maps, and they won't be restored until the game restarts.

This exploit replicates the function of the old “stopsound” command from CS 1.6, removing all extraneous noise and potentially giving players an unfair advantage by allowing them to isolate sounds made by other players.

The impact of such a vulnerability is significant, especially in a game where hearing an opponent's footsteps or the sound of reloading can mean the difference between victory and defeat. Historically, such exploits have been quickly addressed due to their potential impact on game balance.

While such a feature may seem like a strategic advantage at first glance, it raises questions about the fairness and integrity of competitive play. The gaming community is awaiting word from the game's developers on whether this will be addressed in an upcoming patch or remain an unintended “feature” of the game.

Last time a similar bug was found, players who exploited it received an unremovable block on Faceit. How it will be this time is unknown, but it is dangerous to use it now, because you can catch blocking, not only Faceit, and possibly VAC.
