ESL Challenger Atlanta 2024 kicked off today and the team will qualify for ESL Pro League Season 21. SAW are the clear favorites at the tournament, but the question remains whether they will be able to show a decent result and not embarrass themselves.
In addition to SAW, the tournament also features Wildcard, who are playing as a substitute due to the lack of visa for the main sniper Love “phzy” Smidebrant. And one of the questions in tracking the team will be whether Wildcard can produce results without him.
BetBoom and FlyQuest faced off in the opening match of the tournament, where the latter defeated their opponent on Dust 2 with great confidence. After finishing the first half with a score of 10-2, FlyQuest took the game to the end in the most professional way possible and won with a score of 13-3. After sending BetBoom to the bottom of the net.
In the second match of Group A SAW played against Rooster, where SAW performed well and managed to win the first half 8-4. In the second half SAW just brought the game to an end, thus extending Rooster's streak of losing first matches at LAN tournaments.
The first match of Group B was a meeting between BIG and ODDIK, where the European team was stronger, winning 11 rounds in the first half. In the second half, BIG simply took the game to the end and won 13-2.
The substitution in the Wildcard lineup immediately affected their result, the team managed to take only 4 rounds in defense on Ancient, thus giving the initiative to the opponent. In the second half they tried to get back into the game, but it was too late and they lost 13-8.
Next Matches
The winners and losers of each group will meet in the next matches, only the match factor will be different. The winners still have a chance to lose, while the losers do not, because if they lose, they will leave the tournament and go home.
