Valve Releases CS2 Update: Cache Fixes and New Mapmaker Features

Valve released another update for Counter-Strike 2 on August 4, 2026. The patch includes several gameplay fixes, updates to the Cache and Shelter maps, and significantly expands the scripting system capabilities for creating custom content.

Fixed a grenade bug

In the Gameplay section, the developers addressed a bug where grenades could pass through map geometry in certain situations.

Cache received further fixes

Following the return of Cache, Valve continues to refine the map. In this update, the developers:

  • fixed various gaps on the map;
  • improved collision in several positions;
  • eliminated flickering of certain objects;
  • removed the boost position in the Outside A area.

Additionally, the Shelter map has been updated to the latest version from the Steam Workshop.

Major changes for map makers and mode creators

The largest part of the patch is dedicated to Map Scripting. Valve has added a host of new functions and events for working with scripts.

Key additions include:

  • new events for picking up, dropping, and spawning weapons;
  • the ability to track bomb and grenade explosions;
  • new functions for working with grenades and C4;
  • added methods to obtain information about planters, defusers, planting time, and bomb explosions;
  • new functions to check if a player has a defuse kit.

Furthermore, Valve fixed a bug where the command Instance.RegisterCheatCommand did not work after script reloads, and marked the bounces parameter in the Instance.OnGrenadeBounce event as deprecated.

Valve continues to enhance CS2

The update did not bring changes to weapon balance or gameplay, but it continues to polish Cache after its return and significantly expands the toolkit for developers of custom maps and modes. This could simplify the creation of more complex scenarios and new game mechanics in the future.
