Counter-Strike 2 is lagging behind VALORANT in Asia. This opinion was expressed by TenZ, and the creator of CS, Minh Le, acknowledged the issue and is confident that players do not feel part of the game. Various tournament operators are trying to boost interest among viewers in Asia by hosting tournaments in these regions.
TenZ stated that VALORANT is more popular than CS in Asia and North America. In his opinion, Riot's global influence is higher, and the NA CS scene is almost dead. Talent Launders, who tried to elevate the NA scene by organizing LAN tournaments in North America, suggested holding the next three majors in Tokyo, Seoul, and Toronto to attract an audience.
The creator of Counter-Strike agreed that Valve has a problem. He believes that Asian players do not see themselves in CS. Minh Le even admitted his fault:
Valve should consider adding some asian CTs and terrorists... Oh wait, why didn't I think of that when I was working on CS.. doh
Valve rarely comments on the popularity issues of CS in general. The main hope for now is tournaments in this region, which is possible since tournaments will now be held in relatively rare cities: Lisbon, Monterrey, Astana, and East Asia.
In 2024, various TOs also hosted major tournaments in Asia to lift this region, but there were few: BLAST Premier: World Final 2024 in Sentosa (Singapore), Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 in Shanghai (China), IEM Chengdu 2024 in Chengdu (China), and YaLLa Compass 2024 in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
