PBE changes to LoL's bounty system for patch 14.21 make gold crucial
PBE changes to LoL's bounty system for patch 14.21 make gold crucial

According to game designer Phreak, in the upcoming PBE update for patch 14.21, players should expect significant changes to the bounty system for map objectives and champions. Riot Games have decided to revise key mechanics to make the game more balanced and dynamic. Most importantly, gold will now become the decisive factor when calculating bounties, with experience taking a back seat.

Why is this necessary? Riot Games aims to reduce the snowball effect, which often makes match outcomes predictable. These changes will allow players to influence the course of the game more meaningfully and create new opportunities for comebacks when a situation seems hopeless.

How will the bounty system change?

Until now, the bounties system for objectives such as towers and Baron considered both gold and experience that players received. However, the main focus will now be on gold. For example, players will be able to earn more points for destroying towers, enhancing their importance on the map. Additionally, bounty for destroying Void Spawns will become a significant part of team strategies.

The new system will be disabled earlier, and the total amount of gold received will decrease. However, objectives like Baron and the Elder Dragon will allow teams to earn more gold due to longer-lasting bounty. These changes aim to create a more dynamic and balanced gameplay where teams can leverage strategic advantages based on the map situation.

Adjustments to champion bounties

The champion bounty system will also undergo major changes. The previous mechanics were based on kill streaks or deaths, often leading to unexpected results. Now, developers have decided to consider additional parameters: kills, deaths, assists, and even farming. This will allow for more precise determination of champion bounty, depending on how much a player dominates the game. It's important to note that assists will now be considered as part of deaths, and a single kill can equate to one death.

Why is this important?

Riot Games are actively working to maintain balance in the game and create conditions for fairer matches. These changes in the bounty system will help reduce the snowball effect and make comebacks more realistic. For teams and players, this will become an additional incentive to adapt their strategies and approach gameplay decisions more consciously.
