Warner Bros cancels Wonder Woman game and closes studios

Warner Bros. Games has confirmed the major strategy shifts at the company that include the cancellation of development of a title based on the character of Wonder Woman and the closure of studios Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego.

Canceling the Wonder Woman game

Monolith Studios, the maker of the Middle-earth video games series, had been working on a title centered around Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO JB Perrette has announced that the project no longer aligns with the company's strategy. The company prefers focusing on top franchises such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC with a specific focus on Batman, and Game of Thrones.

Closing studios

Warner Bros. Games will be closing down three studios throughout the course of the company's restructuring

Monolith Productions: The studio behind the hit Middle-earth games.

Player First Games: The developer of the fighting video game MultiVersus that didn't live up to the company's standards.

WB Games San Diego once developed a free-to-play AAA title.

These procedures are a part of an effort to maximize the use of resources and prioritize the most valuable projects.

Focus on key franchises

Perrette reaffirmed that the company will be focusing on four major franchises:

Harry Potter/Hogwarts Legacy

Mortal Kombat

DC (especially Batman)

Game of Thrones

This has been done with the motive of stabilizing and making the company's games business profitable.

These transitions demonstrate Warner Bros. Games' desire to maximize the use of the company's capabilities and optimize the highest-priority and highest-potential projects in the company's library of games.
