Probably one of the most anticipated novelties in the eighth episode is the unique Kuronami set, which has been well-received by the Valorant community. Recently, senior visual designer Piotr Kopertowski discussed the process of creating this highly anticipated set.
It's worth remembering that Kuronami appeared in the game along with the eighth episode and is one of the most elaborate sets in the entire game. Its uniqueness lies in the special melee weapon, which is unlike other knives. However, the set's price corresponds to its quality, costing as much as 9,500VP. Despite this, the set received excellent reviews, which is why one of the authors decided to share the details of its development. According to Piotr Kopertowski, the finishing move animations and banners were created using the Unreal Engine, and the design idea borrows from ninja aesthetics.
I had a great opportunity to develop and apply in Unreal Engine the banner and color variants of Kuronami kills. The Kuronami set combines and explores ninja aesthetics through water-bending animation, which brings originality to the set and ends with fantastic visual effects that change the weather.
As the senior designer explained, the team carefully selected the right form for the Valorant kill banners. This involves a careful balance of design elements, as the shapes of the icons must be instantly recognizable and convey the necessary information quickly and efficiently to the players.
Finally, Piotr Kopertowski mentioned that while working on Kuronami, it was very important to create visual unity among the different weapon skin designs. In Valorant, it's crucial to maintain the game's aesthetics, enhance the player's experience, ensure functionality, and reinforce identity. These factors contributed to the uniqueness of the collection and, accordingly, its price.
