Sad news emerged yesterday for fans of the North American Valorant scene. Professional player Anthony "vanity" Malaspina announced he’s stepping down from his professional career in Riot's shooter.
Farewell to Valorant
In his official Twitter account, Vanity announced his significant decision yesterday. The player shared that after three years of competing in Valorant, he has decided to end his career due to a lack of enjoyment.
I’ve decided to step away from VALORANT. The main reason for this is that I don’t enjoy playing ranked in the environment it’s become. I think it’s unfair to my teammates and any potential organization to compete when I can’t keep up with training. Throughout my career, I always looked down on people who played just for money, and I always told myself I wouldn’t become one of them, so this is the end of the road for me. Thank you to everyone who supported me, my teammates, and each organization I worked with. You guys allowed me to achieve something I dreamed of my whole life, and I hope to keep your support.
Player achievements
Anthony "vanity" Malaspina began his Valorant career in early 2021. He spent most of his time with Cloud9 but briefly joined Shopify Rebellion for three months in 2023 before returning to C9. During his career, he achieved several significant accomplishments, including 5-6th place at VCT 2021: Stage 2 Masters - Reykjavík, 1st place at VCT 2021: North America Last Chance Qualifier, 5-8th place at VALORANT Champions 2021, 2nd place at Red Bull Home Ground #3, and 5-6th place at VCT 2024: Americas Stage 2. He earned approximately $60,000 over his career.
Future plans
After bidding farewell to fans and teammates, Vanity stated that he plans to focus on a streaming career and on the shooter CS2. He mentioned that he will stream CS2 frequently and may eventually return to the professional scene in Valve's shooter.
As for what's next, I plan to stream CS2 over the next few months and, eventually, compete again if I feel I can reach a level I’m confident in.
