VCT 2024: Masters Shanghai is now in its final stages, with only the most exciting matches ahead. Yesterday, two quarterfinal matches in the lower bracket concluded, resulting in the exit of the Pacific region favorites, as well as one of the two remaining EMEA teams from the tournament.
The first match was against the American players of 100Thieves, led by their notoriously known captain, against the favorites and strongest team from the Pacific region, Paper Rex. Despite being considered the favorites, they were unable to defeat the American team. After three tense maps with scores of 13-5, 10-13, 14-12, 100Thieves claimed victory and advanced to the next stage, while Paper Rex exited the tournament in 5th-6th place, earning $50,000 in prize money.
In the second match, a European derby awaited, where the last two teams from the EMEA region, Team Heretics and FUT Esports, battled for the right to stay in the tournament. Unlike the previous match, this clash ended very quickly. Team Heretics easily closed out their opponents in two maps with scores of 13-7 and 13-4, thereby securing their advance to the next stage. FUT Esports, in turn, also left the event in 5th-6th place, earning $50,000 in prize money.
The winners of both matches will now meet in the lower bracket semifinals on June 7th, fighting for a chance to reach the finals to test their mettle against the top-seeded teams from the upper bracket. Keep following our portal for the latest news from the Valorant esports scene.
