The format of VCT Ascension Pacific Tokyo 2024 has sparked a wave of criticism

Riot Games has presented the main details of the VCT Ascension Pacific Tokyo 2024 tournament, which will take place in Tokyo this September. However, the tournament format has sparked a wave of criticism from the community.

The tournament will feature 10 champions from various regions of Asia who will compete for promotion to the international league in 2025. The group stage will be held in an unusual seeded tournament format, and the playoffs will take place in a single-elimination format with no room for loss.

Despite the importance of the tournament for the Challengers league, the format has caused discontent among fans. They point out that teams in the group stage may receive significant advantages or disadvantages depending on the draw, and also express dissatisfaction with the absence of a double-elimination format in the playoffs.

There have been calls on social media for an explanation from the tournament organizers. Official VCT 2024 commentator Taiga Kishi stated in his post on X:

I say this as someone involved in organizing the official tournament, but the format looks somewhat distorted. This is the only chance of the year to get promoted to the international league, and I think it should be approached with greater care.

He also noted that the tight schedule of the tournament, including only 7 days for the group stage and playoffs, may be due to organizational issues.

Details of the tournament will be announced later, but the community is already actively expressing its dissatisfaction. The question of how the group stage methods and the choice of a single-elimination format for the playoffs will be explained remains open. The developments will be closely monitored.
