The Evolution Series is only important for non-partnered teams in China, non-partnered teams will be receiving points which will qualify them to the Chinese Ascension tournament which starts in December.
So for teams like Attacking Soul Esports and Trace Esports… pic.twitter.com/R2fDA3BZY2
Recall that at the moment, the Valorant China Evolution Series is taking place in China, which is divided into 3 acts. Each of them involves 8 teams competing for a cash prize as well as EVO Points necessary for further advancement in the league. Interestingly, the main prize for the top teams in the rankings is an invitation to the Chinese Ascension tournament. This is quite strange because in other regions, Ascension series events are a chance for tier-2 teams to get a partnership and break into the top league. In China, however, well-known top teams such as Bilibili Gaming, Team Weibo, FunPlus Phoenix, and EDward Gaming, which already have a partnership program, are vying for a ticket to the tournament. The latter, by the way, won the first act of the China Evolution Series just yesterday, which we reported on in our article.
Bo Hoogland explained that for the above-mentioned teams, the China Evolution Series is just a regular off-season tournament where you can find young talents among tier-2 teams.
The Evolution series is important only for teams that are not partners in China. Non-partnership teams will earn points that will qualify them for the "Chinese Ascension" tournament starting in December. So for teams like Attacking Soul Esports and Trace Esports, this is an important tournament, but for partnership teams like Weibo, EDG, FPX, and BLG, it's just an off-season tournament. Some partner teams are waiting for the end of Ascension to then buy out players from non-partnership teams.
It should be noted that the Chinese region has only recently appeared in Valorant. Therefore, it's possible that in the future, Riot Games plans to make it similar to other existing regions. Continue to follow our portal to learn about all the changes related to the game's competitive scene.
