Sentinels began their journey in the AfreecaTV VALORANT LEAGUE with a tough victory over Paper Rex

One of the biggest off-season tournaments, the AfreecaTV VALORANT LEAGUE, has started and is providing a fantastic show for the audience. The first match of the group stage has recently concluded, and the outcome was quite unexpected.

In the first match of Group A, we witnessed a clash between the top Singaporean team, Paper Rex, and the American club, Sentinels, which had shown subpar performance this season. The match was intense but ended with an unexpected victory for the Americans, raising many questions about the performance of this year's world championship runner-up.

The meeting began on Breeze, where despite Paper Rex being the favorites, they failed to justify their choice and lost with a significant margin of 7-13. The second map, Sunset, saw a similar situation but in favor of the match's favorites. Sentinels chose a map they had less experience with and were defeated with the same score, 7-13. The fate of the match was decided on Haven, and the battle was very engaging. The teams exchanged rounds, and it all ended in overtime, where the Americans clinched a 15-13 victory. An interesting performance occurred at the beginning of the third map, where Paper Rex eliminated all enemies in just 9 seconds.

As a result of the match, the Singaporean team, which was the runner-up in the last world championship, falls to the lower round, where they will fight for the right to continue their journey in the tournament. Meanwhile, the American underdogs, having secured an unexpected victory, move on to the winners' round, where they will compete for the first slot in the playoff stage in two days. It should be noted that the AfreecaTV VALORANT LEAGUE is the biggest off-season tournament, taking place from December 5 to 10 in a LAN format. Eight teams are competing for the title and a substantial prize pool of $80,000.
