Munchkin from Gen.G: "The role of IGL shouldn't be an excuse for poor performance"

On July 21, the Gen.G team defeated DRX with a score of 3-1 in the VCT Pacific final, claiming the regional champion title. This victory solidified their status as one of the top contenders for the upcoming VALORANT Champions 2024 tournament.

Gen.G, the reigning VALORANT Masters champion, demonstrated outstanding form at the VCT Pacific Stage 2. After the match, Gen.G captain Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom, who was named MVP of the final, emphasized:

If you’re a VALORANT player, you need to shoot better than your opponents. Being an IGL shouldn’t be an excuse for poor gameplay or bad shooting.

Munchkin, one of the most decorated and experienced players in Valorant, has changed the dynamics of the team. Gen.G is now considered one of the best teams in the history of Riot Games FPS. Following their victory at the Pacific stage, the team secured a spot in the main event of the year, landing in Group B alongside Sentinels, FunPlus Phoenix, and Team Heretics.

The VALORANT Champions 2024 tournament will take place in Seoul, South Korea, from August 1 to 25, where 16 of the world’s best teams will compete for the championship title and a substantial prize pool of $2,250,000.
