Gentle Mates claim their first victory in EMEA with an unusual agent selection

On April 6th, the third day of the first week of VCT 2024 EMEA Stage 1 took place. In the match between Gentle Mates and BBL Esports on the Ascent map, Gentle Mates selected a lineup with two duelists - Yoru and Phoenix, and secured a victory with a score of 13-7.

In the current meta-state on the Ascent map, Jett and KAY/O are usually used, however, Gentle Mates opted for an unusual lineup with two duelists - Yoru and Phoenix. It is worth noting that at Masters Madrid, the LOUD team also used these agents on the Ascent map, but in different matches, not as a duo.

Influenced by the Jett nerf, Yoru's popularity has increased in the EMEA region, however, Jett still remains the predominant choice on the Ascent map. Even the official Paper Rex account, which often uses non-standard lineups, appeared in the broadcast chat and asked: "What's going on with Yoru and Phoenix?".

Although Gentle Mates demonstrated an unusual lineup, utilizing the abilities of two agents with teleportation for fakes and zone control using Phoenix's fire, they still managed to win on the Ascent map with a score of 13-7, and then secure a victory on the Sunset map with a score of 13-11, starting with a strong start.

Gentle Mates next opponent will be the popular team from France - Karmine Corp. The match is scheduled to begin on April 13th.
