The scandal involving the American organization Evil Geniuses continues to unfold online. Renowned Danish journalist Bo Hoogland shared his thoughts on the matter and discussed who truly deserves recognition.
It's important to note that the Evil Geniuses organization has long been in the informational space of the Valorant community, among others. The story began after the Evil Geniuses team won the Valorant World Championship. Rumors surfaced online that the club's management decided to keep players in a "contractual prison," rejecting any offers from other teams. Read more about this in our article.
Later, an interview by the well-known journalist Scott Robertson from the Dotesports portal appeared online. He spoke with three anonymous Evil Geniuses employees who were affected by a massive wave of layoffs. Notably, the American organization is currently undergoing radical changes; they have disbanded their Dota 2 roster and are massively laying off employees and managers.
Bo Hoogland reacted to the interview. He mentioned who truly deserves recognition for the victory at Valorant Champions 2023 and also posted a vocal statement concerning Evil Geniuses.
Players and staff who deserved the victory at Champions: Boostio, Demon1, C0m, Ethan, Jawgemo, Potter, Zikz, Kurt, Zeck, Apoth, Screwface, BcJ, Icy, Reformed. As well as other hardworking behind-the-scenes employees who did not receive proper thanks. On the other hand, Evil Geniuses as a brand will always be a shame for the Valorant esports scene.
The main message of the Danish journalist is that the organization, apart from the five tournament winners, takes all the attention and glory for themselves while many employees, coaches, and analysts do not receive the appreciation they deserve.
During the discussion, readers accused Evil Geniuses of poor salary distribution. As user Maruko writes, the organization also maintains a CS2 team that undeservingly receives tier-1 team salaries without showing significant achievements.
Just a reminder that they still have a CS team that receives first-tier salaries but has been losing for 3 consecutive years. The team occupies the last places in several tournaments and loses to F/A teams. Nevertheless, the organization is reducing the salary of the Valorant Champions winning team by 50%. This is foolish.
So far, after several days of discussion, the organization has not responded to all the accusations and has not tried to justify itself. However, considering the statements of such well-known media figures, it can be assumed that the organization will continue to be under a barrage of criticism, and therefore the further fate of the Valorant team remains in question.
