EDward Gaming wins VALORANT Champions 2024, first for China

In the final of VALORANT Champions 2024, held in Korea, the Chinese team EDward Gaming achieved a historic victory, becoming the first team from China to claim the championship title. In the decisive match, EDward Gaming defeated Team Heretics.

During a stream on their own channel, EDward Gaming player CHICHOO shared behind-the-scenes details of the final map. He noted that Team Heretics was under immense stress as they did not expect to lose to EDward Gaming. The pressure on their opponents increased with each lost round. CHICHOO also mentioned that after tournaments in Madrid and Shanghai, EDward Gaming had consistently lost in scrims against Team Heretics, highlighting the opponents' dominance on their favorite map, "Abyss."

In scrims, Boo and MiniBoo always performed exceptionally well, especially Boo, who was known for his consistency and outstanding clutches. This might have put additional pressure on Team Heretics.
CHICHOO noted

EDward Gaming, which had long dominated the Chinese scene with ten local tournament wins, faced challenges on the international stage, finishing last at VALORANT Champions 2022 and VCT 2023 LOCK//IN. However, at VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, the team reached the playoffs for the first time and continued their successful run, becoming a regular top-tier team.

At VALORANT Champions 2024, EDward Gaming, representing China, suffered one loss in the group stage to G2 Esports but then defeated Paper Rex and advanced to the playoffs. In the decisive matches, the team overcame Trace Esports, Sentinels, Leviatán, and Team Heretics, finishing the tournament undefeated.
