In a month, we will find out which team will be the best of the 2024 season, lifting the Valorant Champions 2024 trophy. With little time left before the tournament starts on August 1, we decided to analyze all the participants of this year's championship and identify the top contenders for victory, as well as teams that might surprise with their performance.
Tournament Favorites
Gen.G Esports
The main contender for victory in Valorant Champions 2024 is Gen.G Esports, who earned this status through their results throughout the season. The team won three out of five possible trophies, including victory at VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai. Two other tournaments ended with the team taking second place, including VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Madrid. As a result, Gen.G Esports earned three gold and two silver medals, making them unrivaled among the forty-four VCT representatives.
Leviatán
Compared to Gen.G Esports, Leviatán has fewer chances of winning Valorant Champions 2024. The first part of the season was a failure for them, but closer to the end of the year, the team started showing better results, including winning VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Americas League - Stage 2. They head to the most prestigious tournament of the year as the strongest team in America, largely thanks to the Brazilian star - Erick “aspas” Santos, against whom almost all professional players fear to duel.
G2 Esports
G2 Esports gained good form by the end of the season. They transformed from VCT franchise league debutants into one of the strongest teams in the American region, becoming bronze medalists at VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai. Compared to Gen.G Esports and Leviatán, G2 Esports have fewer chances of winning, as the team might lack the experience of playing at such a high level, which Gen.G Esports and Leviatán have in abundance.
Guaranteed Playoff Spots
Paper Rex
Paper Rex is one of the most stable teams in the past two years. The team consistently stays at the top of the table but has not yet reached peak form to win at least one title on the international stage. This year's world championship might be their time, but for now, they are the strongest team among the middle-tier teams. Therefore, Paper Rex is guaranteed to make it out of their group.
Fnatic
Fnatic is not in the best form right now, and they will come to the world championship with a substitute. The organization decided to give their main player, Leo "Leo" Jannesson, a break to deal with health issues. The new player, Emirhan "hiro" Ka, has fit well into the team, and they started playing better than at the beginning of the season, winning two out of three possible titles in the EMEA region. Due to instability and a forced substitute in the lineup, Fnatic is an average team that should easily make it out of their group, but anything more is questionable.
Team Heretics
Team Heretics is the most stable team in the EMEA region, having finished in the top positions at VCT tournaments in Europe three times, earning their slot at Valorant Champions 2024. The team should at least make it to the playoffs, as they will come to the event with a full lineup, unlike at VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai, where they still managed to earn a silver medal.
Sentinels
The team started their season by making it to the first international tournament, VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Madrid, where they won the championship. However, over time, Sentinels began to decline and missed the second international tournament of 2024. Their spot at Valorant Champions 2024 was in question: Sentinels finished Stage 2 in 5th-6th place, and without Leviatán's help, the team wouldn't have made it to this tournament.
Despite categorizing Sentinels as a team guaranteed to make it to the playoffs, there is a high likelihood they won't due to the high competition in their Group B, which includes Gen.G Esports and Team Heretics. However, the American team is average, so they belong in this category.
Dark Horses
At Valorant Champions 2024, several teams might surprise viewers with their performance and make it into the top 8 teams globally, possibly even achieving better results.
EDward Gaming
The only Chinese team that can compete with teams from other regions. Over time, EDward Gaming has shown better and better results on the international stage, thanks to their experience. However, this is still not enough to consistently perform at a high level. The main problem is the relatively low level of play on the Chinese scene, making it difficult for EDward Gaming to practice and improve their skills.
DRX
Throughout the season, DRX consistently showed high results in the Pacific region, but the team couldn't make it to the Masters. Therefore, it's unclear how ready they are to compete with teams from other regions. Considering that last year DRX took 5th-6th place at Valorant Champions 2023, the team might surprise and repeat their success.
KRÜ Esports
Although there are no significant expectations from KRÜ Esports, calling them weak is also difficult. They managed to make it to the world championship from the competitive American region, leaving 100 Thieves behind. Therefore, they should show better results than expected.
Team Vitality
For Team Vitality, this will be their first world championship. The team can take advantage of a relatively easy group and the fact that other teams don't fully understand their capabilities, potentially placing high in the final tournament table.
FUT Esports
The Turkish team had significant difficulties securing their slot for this tournament. Thanks to their extensive experience, including participation in previous world championships, FUT Esports might show a decent result.
No Playoff Prospects
There is also a list of teams from which we do not expect any results at Valorant Champions 2024. Their exit from the group would be a surprise, but this is just our subjective opinion, which doesn't affect anything. We still wish these teams the best of results.
