Epic Games revealed record figures for 2024 for Fortnite Creative, paying out $352 million to map creators through the engagement reward program. This is an 11% increase from the previous year 2023, highlighting the growth of the Fortnite ecosystem based on user-created content.
Players spent an astonishing 5.23 billion hours on user-created maps, accounting for 36.5% of the total gaming time in Fortnite. This is a 5% increase from 2023. The number of active creators tripled — from 24,000 to 70,000, who published over 198,000 unique gaming experiences in 2024. Daily player engagement with user-created content increased by 15%, indicating the growing popularity of the community.

Within the framework of the Epic reward program, creators received a percentage of revenue based on the popularity of their content. Seven creators earned over $10 million, 14 earned over $3 million, and 37 received more than $1 million. Even less experienced creators achieved significant success: 154 earned approximately $300,000, while over 7,000 earned between $1,000 and $100,000. The total number of active creators tripled to 70,000, who published 198,000 unique maps in 2024.
The success of Fortnite Creative is supported by Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), which provides advanced tools for creating maps, gaming experiences, and even integrating intellectual property such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, LEGO, and Fall Guys. UEFN updates in 2024 included new features such as first-person view, proximity-based chat, custom NPCs, and enhanced analytics tools.
Daily engagement with creator-made content increased by 15% compared to the previous year, with an average of 60,000 maps played daily. Non-combat genres, such as social role-playing games, parties, and "deathruns," showed significant growth, increasing their share of gaming time by nearly 50% by January 2025.

Fortnite developers released a promotional video highlighting the game's genre diversity and its creative possibilities. At the same time, they gave a kind of PR boost to some creators whose maps were most notable.

Despite the impressive figures, Fortnite Creative lags behind the market leader — Roblox, which paid creators $741 million in 2023. Analysts note that Fortnite needs to overcome technological and product gaps to compete fully. Meanwhile, the unique combination of internal and user content from Epic provides the platform with stable growth.
Epic plans further improvements to UEFN, adding tools for more complex game creation, beta testing of Scene Graph, and implementing customizable items. The company aims to provide creators with better analytics, improve stability, and assist in enhancing player engagement to cement Fortnite Creative's position as a key player in the user-created content market.
