Black Myth: Zhong Kui Revealed at Gamescom as Sequel to Wukong

After the massive success of Black Myth: Wukong, which sold over 20 million copies in its first month last year, developer Game Science has revealed the next chapter in its myth-inspired series. Closing out Tuesday’s Gamescom Opening Night Live showcase, the studio announced Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

A New Hero From Ancient Chinese Folklore

Where Wukong drew on the legend of the Monkey King, Zhong Kui will spotlight the ghost-catching god who wanders between Hell and Earth, as described by host Geoff Keighley. According to the game’s FAQ page, it will share the same foundation of ancient Chinese myth and folklore while continuing the series’ blend of action and storytelling.

Early Reveal, No Release Window Yet

Like its predecessor, Zhong Kui will be an action RPG, but Game Science isn’t ready to pin down a release date. The studio stated that it has no timeframe to share just yet, instead, it simply wanted to give fans a glimpse of progress, keeping up its tradition of annual August updates.

What we do know is that the game is set to launch on PC and all mainstream console platforms, though a staggered release seems likely. Black Myth: Wukong was exclusive to PlayStation 5 for a year before coming to Xbox Series X, and a similar rollout could be in the cards for Zhong Kui.
