After a year-long wait, Xbox players will finally get their hands on Black Myth: Wukong when it launches on Xbox Series X|S on August 20, 2025. Developer Game Science confirmed the release date, aligning it exactly one year after the game's debut on PlayStation 5 and PC.
Pre-orders for the Xbox version will open on June 18, 2025. To celebrate the upcoming release, Game Science is offering a 20% discount on digital pre-orders across all platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The discount period varies by platform:
Originally planned for a simultaneous release on all major platforms, the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong was delayed. Game Science explained that optimization challenges, particularly related to the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S, were the main cause. Meanwhile, industry rumors suggested a possible timed exclusivity deal with Sony, though Microsoft has neither confirmed nor denied these claims.
In a recent statement, Game Science highlighted their commitment to quality:
“Bringing Black Myth: Wukong to Xbox Series X|S—and ensuring the experience met our internal quality standards—was no easy task,” the studio said. “Fortunately, we successfully completed this challenging process within the first year after the game’s official release.”
Playing Black Myth: Wukong feels like stepping into the legendary story of Journey to the West. You take on the role of the Doomed One, exploring an amazing, detailed world full of mythical creatures and tough enemies that really test your skills. The game’s visuals are absolutely stunning, and the challenge level reminds me a lot of Dark Souls and God of War — it’s tough but incredibly rewarding.
Xbox fans should save the date August 20, 2025 when Black Myth: Wukong officially arrives on the platform. Pre-orders begin on June 18, offering a generous discount, making it an ideal moment to get ready for an epic adventure rooted in ancient Chinese mythology.
