There are three available methods in Death Stranding 2 that allow you to use fast travel. However, each method requires meeting certain conditions — mainly reaching a specific plot point, after which fast travel via that method becomes accessible.
Fast travel unlock Death Stranding 2
Fast travel in Death Stranding 2 becomes available after progressing through the main story. Specifically, you’ll need to complete Order No. 12 during Episode 3: Drawbridge. This mission involves a major battle against a massive mechanical BT and is a key turning point in the narrative.
Once completed, you'll return to the DHV Magellan — a large ship that functions as a mobile base. After resting in the private room, fast travel becomes accessible via the Magellan’s teleportation system.
The DHV Magellan is your primary fast travel hub in Death Stranding 2. It uses chiral teleportation to jump between docked locations that are connected to the Chiral Network fast travel.
How to use Magellan for fast travel:
Fast travel is only possible between structures linked to the Chiral Network and equipped with Magellan docks.
Travel is only possible to structures you've previously connected to the Chiral Network. They must also have a dock compatible with Magellan. Not every outpost is suitable for this role.
Sam can travel with cargo, but there are limitations: any delivery made after fast travel receives a Magellan Evaluation, which automatically lowers your delivery rating — regardless of the cargo condition or time spent. If you aim to achieve an S-rating for all your deliveries, you'll need to stick to walking and forget about fast traveling by ship.
Later in the game, you unlock Transponders, which allow fast travel using Beach Jumps — a method built with PCC Level 2.
How to fast travel via Transponder:
Limitations: You cannot carry cargo or vehicles during Beach Jumps. All your gear will automatically transfer to the Private Locker at the destination.
Despite the cargo restriction, Beach Jumps offer flexible travel options — especially when the Magellan is unavailable or docked elsewhere.
Another unique fast travel option involves Hot Springs, which can be discovered or built in specific regions. These locations allow fast travel between connected springs.
How to Unlock Hot Spring Travel
Hot Springs not only offer a travel system but also provide recovery benefits. Resting can trigger ambient music and unique dialogues — making it one of the most atmospheric travel methods in the game.
Just like Transponders, you cannot carry cargo or vehicles between springs.
