In Date Everything, the objective of the game is to form relationships with the objects in your house. You are able to do this by using the Dateviator, a pair of glasses which was given to your character by a mysterious donor.
With these objects, or Dateables, you can achieve a Friends, Love or Hate status with each of them. Depending on the status that you end up with, you can get a different relationship ending with a Dateable.
Similar to some Dateables, Doug is not an object- he is the concept of Existential Dread. He has a personality that can be a lot to deal with- arrogant, brash and very nihilistic. Most of your Dates with him will consist of doing something on the apps in his phone like doomscrolling on his Sharebucket for him.
Due to his constant aggression in every interaction, Doug is one of the 17 Dateables that has been marked as Content-Aware. Content-Aware is an accessibility feature in the game where you have the option to skip potentially triggering storylines entirely, get all of their Collectables and the relationship ending of your choice.
For the concept of Existential Dread, there is no object for you to interact with. You will have to simply stare at the wall behind the stairs, while wearing the Dateviator. In 20-30 seconds, the game considers this as an interaction with Doug and you will get to meet him.
The Overwhelming Sense of Existential Dread appears in the form of a shirtless, muscular, white-skinned humanoid with a spherical emoticon for a face. He has some sort of a superiority complex that did actually develop from feelings of inferiority- which you discover as his storyline progresses.
Unlike with other Dateables, your responses to Doug don't really affect your relationship as much. However, you can still follow the steps below as a rough guideline. Completing his tasks also does not affect his ending, but you can do them just to collect all of his Collectables.
How To Get ‘Friends’ Status
To befriend Doug, you would have to tolerate his treatment of you, choosing mostly friendly responses. You can stand up for yourself a lot of the time but be careful not to outright insult him or you will find yourself going down the Hate route.
The Vidbucket conversation provides an opening to get to know him on a deeper level. You can temporarily go down the Love route but tell him to find ‘a new Hope’. Choose the friendly responses instead of the flirty responses. He will offer you to be friends with benefits and whether you accept or reject the offer, you are now Friends.
However, you can also get the Friends status if you just continue the Vidbucket conversation as normal and avoid calling him pathetic. He will offer to be friends with benefits nonetheless.
How To Get ‘Love’ Status
Do the same things as mentioned previously up until the Vidbucket conversation.
Choose the response where you tell him to shut up and call him pathetic. This takes him aback and he will abruptly end the conversation for the day. In your next interaction, he will start opening up about Hope, his ex. Be empathetic with him throughout the conversation.
When the option pops up, choose ‘What if you started a new relationship? With me?’. Then reaffirm that this is ‘not about replacing her’. He will now confess that he has fallen in love again- and you have now achieved the Love status.
How To Get ‘Hate’ Status
To get him to hate you, you can speak as meanly as possible to him. Ignore his efforts of doing activities together and he will grow bored of you.
Alternatively, you can choose to go down the Love route- which sounds counteractive. Play along and be friendly, up until he confesses his love for you. There, you can respond with ‘Sike, loser!’ and you will achieve the Hate status. It’s definitely an unkind way to do it but it gets the job done.
There are 3 Collectables that you can get from Doug. The Doug Point, sudoku puzzle and a picture of Hope.
Doug Point
In your very first conversation, he will give you a Doug Point to get you to scroll on Sharebucket for him. If you are open to doing it, he gives it to you as a reward and if you say that ‘it sounds like a waste of time’, he’ll still give it to you as an incentive.
Sudoku Puzzle
For the sudoku, he tells you not to ‘cheat’ as he describes the whole puzzle to you row by row- expecting you to solve it in your head. He will ask you some questions to make sure ‘you’re not metagaming’. Here are the answers to those questions:
Picture of Hope
If you follow the Love route and get Doug to open up to you, you will acquire this Collectable.
At the end of the game, you can Realize Dateables- bringing them to life. You will need to use their Realization Recipe, which is a specific amount of each SPECS point.
To Realize Doug, you will need:
If you find that you cannot Realize a Dateable, it might be that they have Unfurnished Business. This means that they still have a role to play in other Dateables' storylines.
