Build and Kill Zombies: A Complete Beginner's Guide

Build and Kill Zombies looks simple at first: build a vehicle, slap some weapons on it, and drive straight into a zombie horde. But progression gets much faster once you know which rolls matter, how to spend your Cash, and which permanent upgrades are actually worth buying.

This Build and Kill Zombies beginner guide covers the basics, from your first car and rolls to Cash farming, skill upgrades, and the newer Update 2.5 progression.

How Build and Kill Zombies Works

Build and Kill Zombies is a Roblox vehicle-building survival game where you roll for parts, assemble your own car, add weapons and defenses, then drive through increasingly dangerous zombie waves.

You earn Cash by traveling farther and killing zombies. That money goes straight back into better parts, stronger weapons, and permanent upgrades, creating a simple loop:

  • Roll Details → Build → Drive → Earn Cash → Upgrade → Go farther

The better your car becomes, the longer you survive and the more Cash you can bring back per run.

For a fresh account, COMMUNITY is especially good because the Small Engine and Small Tank immediately cover two essential vehicle components.

Some codes can also give Hacker Tokens, although direct Cash and usable parts are much more valuable when you're just starting out.

Check the lobby for any free chest or group rewards too. A single free component can save you several rolls early on.

Best Rolls to Prioritize Early in Build and Kill Zombies

One of the biggest beginner mistakes is treating every roll machine the same. CAR PARTS and SUPPORTS are completely separate roll pools, so you'll need to spend Cash on both eventually.

CAR PARTS

CAR PARTS contains:

  • Blocks
  • Engines
  • Wheels
  • Fuels

Your first priority should be Engine + Fuel.

A faster engine sounds great, but speed doesn't help much if your tiny fuel tank runs dry after a short distance. Early progression is usually limited more by fuel than raw speed, so try to build a balanced setup instead of chasing the fastest engine possible.

After that, focus on wheels.

A stable car is far more useful than one packed with rare blocks but impossible to control. You don't need to spam Block rolls early either. Structural pieces matter more later when you're expanding your chassis or protecting important components.

Understanding Build and Kill Zombies how to play starts with this balance between mobility, fuel, and damage. Your first vehicle does not need rare components everywhere; it only needs enough range and stability to survive longer runs and bring back more Cash.

SUPPORTS

SUPPORTS contain your weapons and other offensive equipment, including options such as the Shredder and Crossbow.

The Shredder is a solid starter weapon because it works well mounted at the front of the vehicle, where it can hit zombies before they smash into more vulnerable parts.

Your early priority should look roughly like this:

  • Engine → Fuel → Stable Wheels → At least one good Support

Don't overcomplicate it. A monster weapon setup is useless if your car runs out of fuel instantly, while a long-range vehicle won't get far if zombies can stop it with almost no resistance.

Rare parts become more important once your basic setup works consistently. Higher-tier drops can have extremely low roll chances, and Update 2.5 added the new Divine rarity.

How to Build Your First Car

Keep your first build simple. You don’t need anything fancy yet—the goal is to make a car that drives reliably, survives early zombies, and earns enough Cash for upgrades.

The Build and Kill zombies best first build is a lightweight and balanced vehicle with an engine, enough fuel for a useful run, stable wheels, and at least one weapon positioned to stop zombies before they reach important components.

Start with the basic chassis, then add the essentials: an engine, fuel tank, wheels, and everything needed to drive. On PC, press B to open Build Mode. From there, you can place, rotate, remove, and reposition parts. Mobile uses similar on-screen controls.

Try to keep important components near the center of the car instead of leaving them exposed along the edges. A reasonably balanced and symmetrical layout also helps the vehicle stay easier to control when you hit zombies or rough terrain.

Mount your first weapon at the front. A contact-based Support like the Shredder works best when enemies hit it before reaching the rest of your build. Don’t waste Cash turning your starter car into a giant armored box, either. More parts can add unnecessary weight without solving the problems that usually matter most early on: fuel and damage.

Once the basics are in place, take the car for a run instead of spending forever tweaking it in the garage. Your first few attempts are basically test runs. If you keep running out of fuel, upgrade your fuel capacity. If zombies stop you first, improve your weapons or durability. If the car handles badly, fix the layout before spending Cash on rarer parts.

Build, test, fix the weakest point, and go again. That loop will get you much farther than trying to create the perfect car from the start.

Your First Run and How Cash Payouts Work

Press DRIVE and start pushing through the course. You earn Cash in two main ways: distance traveled and zombies killed. That means a good run rewards both survival and combat.

Early on, distance is the more reliable source of income. Even with weak weapons, every extra stretch you cover adds to your payout, which makes fuel efficiency and a decent engine especially important for beginners. Zombie kills bring in extra Cash, and they become much more valuable once you unlock stronger weapons and more Support capacity.

Player testing puts distance income at around 0.4 Cash per stud. For example, a 1,203-stud run reportedly paid 481 Cash. However, there’s no officially confirmed fixed rate for distance or zombie kills, so treat this number as a rough estimate rather than a guaranteed formula.

Fuel drains constantly while you’re driving. Once your car can’t go any farther, hit RETURN to head back to the build area and spend what you earned.

From there, the progression loop is simple: figure out what stopped your last run, upgrade that weakness, then go again and try to beat your previous distance.

Best Skill Tree Upgrades for Beginners

Skills are usually a better early investment than another mediocre roll because they give you permanent account upgrades. The Build and Kill Zombies skill tree is much larger now, but beginners should still focus on the cheap early nodes before even thinking about the million-Cash upgrades added later.

A solid early-game order looks like this:

UPGRADES
PRICE
More Support I
500 Cash
Unlock Gold Roll I
500 Cash
Luck I
75 Cash
Luck II
250 Cash
Gold Roll I
1.20K Cash
More Support II
3.70K Cash
Gold Roll IШ
2.70K Cash
Luck III
625 Cash
Pro Luck I
950 Cash
More Support III
8.5K
Placement I
5K

You don't have to follow this order perfectly. If your rolls are terrible, more Luck makes sense. If your car already drives far but struggles to kill zombies, unlocking another Support slot can give you a much bigger immediate boost.

The newer skill tree has several additional branches, including:

  • Damage
  • Gold Damage
  • Health
  • Plot Expansion
  • Placement
  • Paint

For example, Damage I increases weapon damage by 5%, while Health II gives your car 15% more health. These upgrades become important later, but some high-end nodes cost millions of Cash. They're not something a beginner should be saving for during the first few sessions. Focus on cheap upgrades that improve your runs right now.

Update 2.5: What Changed for New Players

The September 19 update added a lot more long-term progression to the game. Roblox currently labels the live version as NEW UPDATE 2.5, with another update following on September 24.

The biggest change is the expanded skill tree. It’s no longer focused mostly on Luck, Gold Rolls, and Support capacity. New branches now improve weapon damage, vehicle health, plot size, placement limits, and paint options.

Most of these upgrades are aimed at players who already have a solid build and plenty of Cash. Some nodes cost 1.25 million or more, while a late Gold Damage upgrade can reach 10.5 million Cash. If you’re just starting out, stick with the cheaper original upgrades before dumping millions into the new branches.

Update 2.5 also added more endgame progression with the new Divine rarity, giving players another tier of powerful parts to chase. The course has expanded too, with a new sci-fi area appearing after roughly 13,900 studs, so stronger cars now have even more distance to cover.

Customization got a boost as well. The new Paint Ability in the skill tree unlocks basic car colors, while an optional 99 Robux upgrade adds more advanced color controls. The updated interface also includes preset car builds, including the limited Glitched Tank blueprint-style setup.

For beginners, though, the core strategy hasn’t really changed. Don’t waste your early game saving millions for late skill-tree upgrades or constantly rerolling for Divine parts. Grab the available free rewards, build a light car that actually works, prioritize your engine and fuel, add a reliable weapon, and spend Cash on cheap permanent upgrades first.

Once your runs become consistent, you can start pushing deeper into the new Update 2.5 progression and upgrading the parts of your build that are holding you back.
