Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan gave an interview before BLAST Slam II, where he talked about the situation in Nigma Galaxy, the role of Kuroky in the team, and the current Dota 2 patch. He shared his views on how the playstyle has changed, which mechanics need improvement, and who, in his opinion, is the most problematic hero in the meta.
The first question was about Kuroky's role in Nigma Galaxy and his influence on team decisions.
Kuroky has the final say for all our strategies. The dynamics are interesting because he’s been playing Dota for nearly 20 years as a professional player but now he’s pivoted to coaching. The role seems to really suit him as he enjoys doing it, and it's been a real benefit to us.
The conversation then shifted to Nigma Galaxy's preparation for BLAST Slam II. SumaiL noted that the team is confident in their abilities, and successful scrims against top teams provide extra motivation.
We're feeling about 90% confident heading into the event. Our scrims against strong teams have been positive, and we've even seen them perform well against other top contenders. Besides that, having a coach is also a significant boost to our confidence.
Despite the progress, SumaiL admitted that the team still lacks full synergy.
Yes, synergy is lacking, but I don't know what else to say. Yeah, I mean it's not there for sure but it’s somewhat there.
He also commented on the current state of Dota 2, emphasizing that the game is becoming more team-oriented.
Dota 2 has become more team-oriented and technical, moving away from individual plays and relying less on "gut feelings" or flashy maneuvers. There are just too many objectives to achieve, a necessity if you must say, and if you don’t secure those objectives then you’re heavily punished for it.
When asked about the current patch and the strongest heroes, he highlighted Huskar, stating that this character should not exist in the game.
I think Huskar is the most broken. It’s not an overpowered hero but the concept of Huskar shouldn’t exist in Dota itself. He should have been removed from the game a long time ago. Picking Huskar is akin to a checkmate situation to be honest.
SumaiL also shared his opinion on the new XP rune mechanic, suggesting they remove it.
They need to make some big changes again like they did with the XP runes, twin gates and stuff. I would prefer that they remove XP runes to be honest. It's a really rigged part of the game. but other than that, I think it's a really good patch. Every hero is viable somewhat and yeah, it's pretty nice.
Blast SLAM II runs from February 2nd to February 9th in Copenhagen, Denmark. Teams are competing for a prize pool of $1,000,000. You can check out the schedule changes and team standings via this link.
