Esports Is Heading to the Olympics!

Nowadays, there is no longer any doubt that esports is a full-fledged discipline. A discipline that continuously gains popularity, evidenced by numerous fan groups and crowds of viewers in front of screens.

Moreover, competing at the highest level and being the best in this industry comes with considerable financial reward and significant prestige. Everything indicates that this prestige could grow even further, as esports will have its own Olympic Games.

Breaking the Barrier

There is no shortage of intriguing events in the broad field of esports competition worldwide, including in our country. When discussing the most important tournaments, one cannot overlook Katowice, which has been actively involved in this field for years.

One might even venture to say that the Polish city aspires to be considered one of the world's capitals in this area. Especially since many of our compatriots competing in it can boast significant successes.

In any case, achieving the status of an Olympic discipline takes esports to a whole new level. Soon, all media covering this topic, websites like Unibet esport, tournament broadcasts, and esports events may attract new viewers. Besides, having the title of Olympic champion on a CV is no small matter and must capture the imagination.

Arabian Direction

The inaugural edition of the esports Olympics is planned for 2025, with Saudi Arabia as the host. This means the country is quickly becoming an important point on the map of esports events. This year, it hosted the first edition of the Esports World Cup, replacing another event organized by the Saudi Esports Federation in 2022 and 2023.

The new world championship took place in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Participants competed in 23 disciplines, covering a total of 22 different computer games. The stakes included a record total prize pool of over 60 million dollars. The entire event lasted from July 3 to August 25 and featured Polish highlights.

Polish Hopes

The finals of the CS2 competition proved bittersweet, where the Polish team G2 had to acknowledge the superiority of the Ukrainian group Natus Vincere. Snax and TaZ, that is Janusz Pogorzelski and Wiktor Wojtas, lost one to two. For Polish fans, there was some consolation in the fact that on the opposing side, our compatriot Urszula Klimczak played a crucial role, serving as the performance coach for NAVI.

Poles also played a significant role in efforts to include esports in the so-called Olympic family. The Polish association has been actively engaged in this area for years. Thanks to their efforts, the Polish federation was one of the first to gain regular member status in the Olympic committee.

For now, Saudi Arabia undeniably holds the leadership baton in this field, prioritizing the promotion of the country through the development of various sports, including more traditional ones. As for esports, the International Olympic Committee has set the duration of collaboration with the Saudis for 12 years, with the assumption that the games will be held regularly.

Polish fans remain hopeful that our nation will play a significant role in developing this discipline and that our compatriots will showcase their skills in prestigious tournaments again and again.
