Inferno is one of the most iconic maps in Counter-Strike, and with the release of CS2, its popularity has only grown. The developers have radically redesigned the map, and now it looks fresher. But with all these changes, the distribution of grenades, timings, and much more have changed.
To help you learn this new version of the map, we have created a detailed guide on Inferno in CS2, so that you win all your matches on this map.
Map History
The Inferno map was first introduced in Counter-Strike 1.1. After more than two decades, this map, set in a small Italian town, remains a key part of the series.
Map Positions
To clearly understand what's happening on the map and what information your teammates are conveying, you should learn the names of the positions and callouts:
Playing Defense
On Inferno, no side has an advantage because the map is well-balanced, but either side can gain the upper hand during a round. Most often, the defence team plays with the following arrangement:
- 3 players towards A
- 2 players at towards B
This is just a default and it's not necessary to play every round this way, because in some rounds
The main area on the map that counter-terrorists should fight for is, of course, Banana. Banana is a very important area, taking control of which gives the defense team a huge advantage. But how exactly should you take Banana?
It's quite simple, all you need are two incendiary grenades, two HE grenades, and one smoke grenade.
At the very beginning of the round, the Counter-Terrorist side should throw one "close incendiary" and one "deep incendiary". After that, blow up the Logs position with two grenades and finally, smoke off the beginning of Banana with a smoke. Now the whole of Banana is under your control.
After that, one player can stay on Banana, while the other goes to help his teammates at Bomb Site A.
Below we will show you how to throw all the necessary grenades.
To throw a close-range Molotov, you need to aim approximately as shown in the picture and throw the Molotov with a small step. The main thing is that the close-range Molotov should burn in front of the wall:
You need to throw the long Molotov at this wall also from a short step. The main thing is to make the enemy at the 'Post Office' burn:
And for the tree, you need to throw these two fragmentation grenades:
The long smoke is the simplest — just throw it deep into the banana and it will do its job:
Banana is not the only area that requires a lot of attention. It is also worth noting how best to play at Bomb Site A.
The first player, often an AWPer, will play Long, while the other two riflers will play Short and Apartments. The player in Apartments has the option to play in the Apartments themselves, on the Balcony, or in the Pit below. However, the player on Short must help the AWPer control Mid and if necessary, just retreat to the site.
The main grenade that CT players throw is a smoke in Mid and simply refresh it over time. After they feel that the terrorists are about to start pushing, they simply throw a Molotov in the entrance to delay the push.
Smoke grenade on mid:
Molotov under the feet of opponents who will be coming out:
Playing Offense
Playing as Terrorists on Inferno has a million-and-one strategies. For now, we will talk about the default, as well as the main grenades, without knowing which it is forbidden to play on Inferno.
To begin with, let's start with the default player arrangement on the map:
- Two players try to take Banana
- One player throws supporting grenades so that the first pair can easily take the area
- One player slowly occupies apartments
- One player goes to second mid and controls this area
Then depending on all the actions on the map, for example: noise, grenades, exchanges, kills — you need to decide which point is worth pushing.
And now the most interesting part — the grenades.
First, let's talk about the main grenades for taking Banana on the Terrorist side. Starting Molotov for "Machine": Try to throw it so that it falls in front of the barrels, so defenders can't peek at the machine either before or after it:
Molotov for Sandboxes: Throw the grenade with a step and off the edge of the wall in front of you, and then you will hit the target with 100% certainty.
Banana successfully taken, but the B plant site still requires additional grenades. For example: smoke in CT, smoke in coffins, Molotov behind triple box and in dark. For the smoke in CT, you need to stand in this corner and aim as shown in the photo below. Then just release the grenade.
For the smoke in CT, you need to stand in this corner and aim as shown in the photo below. Then just release the grenade.
To throw smoke at coffins, you can use the same position. All you need to do is crouch, then aim as shown in the photo and throw the grenade.
Molotov for "Triple" is given from this position near the car. All you need to do is aim as shown in the photo and throw the grenade with a jumpthrow.
For the Molotov in "dark", you need to stand in this corner and later aim as shown in the second photo. Throw the grenade with a jumpthrow.
We have figured out Bomb Site B, now let's move on to Bomb Site A. In fact, there is nothing complicated here either.
There are two types of attacks towards Bomb Site A, one through Long and the other through Short.
Of course, there is also choosing to attack through the Apartments, but first, not many grenades can be thrown from there, and sending more than one player there doesn't make sense.
So we will cover the main grenades for the attack on Bomb Site A from Long and from Short. Below we provide you with the main grenades for attacking Bomb Site A:
To enter through short, use such a smoke for distance. Stand in this corner on the second mid and throw a grenade with jumpthrow.
When entering from short, you will also need smoke for 'small sands.' Stand by the right edge of these gates and throw a grenade with jumpthrow as shown in the second photo.
And from this corner, we will give smoke to 'Bible.' Just aim as shown in the video and use jumpthrow.
