Mastering key smokes on Inferno can give you a massive advantage, whether you’re attacking or defending. Below, we’ll go over eight of the most useful smokes to control areas and cut off enemy sightlines.
Long CT Smokes
Purpose: Control CT Spawn to open up options for A or B site attacks.
Use this smoke to block off CT Spawn from Banana, making it easier to push B or execute a split attack. Position yourself at Banana near the flower pots on the right wall. Aim at the light bulb and throw the smoke. Be mindful of enemies boosted at CT, as the smoke doesn’t cover that angle.
Balcony Smoke for A Site Retakes
Purpose: Block vision from Balcony during retakes.
Stand near A Long and aim your smoke to land on the Balcony. This reduces the threat from Apartment players and allows your team to clear A site more safely.
Coffins Smoke for B Site Pushes
Purpose: Neutralize the Coffins position, a common hold for AWPers.
From Banana, line up with the end of the “GAS” plate on the right wall. Aim at the light fixture and release the smoke. This effectively blocks off Coffins, making it safer to approach B.
Deep Banana Smoke
Purpose: Gain early control of Banana and deny enemy information.
Start at T Ramp and position yourself near the wooden fence. Aim at the top of the pole visible over the wall and left-click throw. This smoke lands deep in Banana, forcing the CTs to either push through it or play passively, giving your team a safer entry to contest Banana control.
A Short Smoke from Second Mid
Purpose: Secure a clear path to A site or CT Spawn.
Stand at the window near Second Mid’s stairs. Aim at the bottom-right of the antenna and throw the smoke. This covers A Short, allowing your team to take control of Arches or move towards CT Spawn to potentially split B.
A Long Smoke from Second Mid
Purpose: Cut off A Long for fast A site plays.
Position yourself near the same Second Mid window used for A Short smokes, but this time align with the left side of the frame. Aim at the lamp above, drag your crosshair slightly downward, and throw. With a bit of practice, this smoke becomes second nature.
Moto Smoke for A Site Executions
Purpose: Block Library to prevent AWPers from picking you off.
From Mid, position yourself as shown in the image below. Aim at the archway and perform a jump throw. This smoke is essential when attacking A site via Short, as it denies Library players a clean shot.
Pit Smoke for A Site Executions
Purpose: Block Pit to neutralize one of the strongest defender positions.
Stand near the fountain in Second Mid, align yourself with the corner of the house, and aim at the top of the chimney. Perform a jump throw to land the smoke perfectly in Pit. This helps your team focus on clearing site players without worrying about crossfire from Pit, which can be a nightmare to deal with during A site takes.
By practicing these lineups, you’ll gain a tactical edge on Inferno, setting your team up for success in both attack and defense.
