SEVERiNE Leaves BOOM Esports and the Competitive Valorant Scene

Recently, the Twitter account of the Indonesian organization BOOM Esports shared some distressing news for all their fans. As reported by the club representatives, the in-game leader Michael "SEVERiNE" Winata is leaving the team. Later on, the player himself announced that he's bidding farewell to the competitive Valorant scene.

Michael "SEVERiNE" Winata joined the team in October 2022, after the end of the main competitive season. Right after joining, Michael helped BOOM Esports secure several top finishes in the off-season tournaments. Among them, they secured 3rd place at the AfreecaTV SEA Invitational and 2nd place at the Penta Pro Series. The current VCT season seemed quite successful, although they couldn't fully capitalize on their positive momentum. SEVERiNE and his team took 2nd place at the VALORANT Challengers 2023: Indonesia Split 1, and later won the next stage, Split 2. Despite successfully qualifying, the main tournament - Challengers Ascension 2023 ended with the Indonesian club taking the 3-4th place. As a result, the team didn't secure a spot in the Pacific League for the next 2 years, leading to significant changes in the roster.

Following the club's announcement of parting ways with the player, SEVERiNE himself revealed that he's leaving his professional player career behind, but won't be completely leaving Valorant.

I also want to announce the end of my professional player career and am very grateful for all the achievements I've accomplished in the last 3 years of my esports career. I will still be in Valorant, but not as a player. My dreams and ambitions are still big, but it's time for me to share all the experience I've gained over the last 15 years in the fps world. Thank you for following my journey.

This hints at the possibility of SEVERiNE trying his hand at an analyst or coaching role. It's uncertain whether Michael will be looking for a new team for the next season or if his hiatus will last longer, possibly until the next off-season.
