Rumors: Starting in 2025, betting companies may sponsor professional Valorant and LoL teams

The new 2025 VCT season will bring many changes for viewers, but today another previously unannounced addition came to light. According to journalist and insider MonteCristo, starting in 2025, Riot Games will allow betting companies to serve as sponsors for professional teams in Valorant and League of Legends.

What is known about the situation

Today, MonteCristo posted an intriguing message on his official social media. According to his information, starting in 2025, Riot Games will allow professional teams to be sponsored by betting firms.

In 2025, Riot will permit esports teams in League of Legends and VALORANT to have bookmakers as sponsors. However, gambling companies interested in sponsoring teams will need Riot’s approval and will not be able to place their logos on team jerseys.

Interestingly, even with sponsorships allowed, sponsors may not display their company logo on the players' uniforms.

How this will affect Valorant

So far, this information is just a rumor, but players and viewers are already discussing how this decision will influence the professional Valorant and LoL scenes. It’s easy to compare this to CS:GO, Dota 2, and other titles where, as of today, almost no teams remain unsponsored by bookmakers. Whether this is good or bad depends on how Riot Games manages the influence of these sponsors on pro teams in their disciplines, and many other factors that will only become clear if this information is confirmed.
