Riot Games has announced a partial change in the qualification criteria for the VCT 2024 Pacific Stage 1 playoffs

Today, changes were announced for the VCT 2024 Pacific Stage 1 season tournament, affecting the qualification for the playoff stage of the competition.

The qualification criteria for advancing to the playoffs have been altered since the first stage. Each of the top three teams in the group still earns the right to advance to the playoffs, but now, to secure this right, they need to achieve at least two victories. If a team fails to secure at least two victories and a team from the opposing group achieves two victories or more, then that team will be granted the playoff spot.

At VCT 2024 Pacific Stage 1, participants were divided into two groups: "Alpha" and "Omega," and they competed in matches against teams from the other group (inter-group matches). It was announced that the top three teams from each group would advance to the playoffs, but now the criteria include the requirement of at least two victories.

Even if a team ranks in the top three of its group, it cannot advance to the playoffs if it has fewer than two victories. Instead, teams from the other group that have achieved two or more victories and meet the qualification criteria will advance to the playoffs.

A new format of matches between groups, called "cross-group matches," has been introduced for Stage 1, marking the first experience of its kind in VCT history. However, this rule change is likely aimed at reducing the gap between groups. It should be noted that in the already ongoing regions of EMEA and China, as well as in the Americas, such a rule has not been announced; the changes only affect the Pacific region.
