On May 22, Riot Games released a video detailing upcoming updates in Valorant. The video announced that maps Breeze and Split will be removed from rotation, while Haven will return. Valorant Product Manager, Altombre, also discussed upcoming changes in map rotation on Reddit.
Many users believe that Riot Games is afraid to remove Ascent, which is considered one of the best maps, especially among high-ranking players. Split has always been contentious and is one of the oldest maps, alongside Ascent. Despite conflicting opinions on Fracture and Pearl maps, the decision to bring back the popular Haven map seems logical.
User u/itsNOVAfr noted:
I think Riot is too afraid to destroy Ascent. It's the best map for many people, and especially one of the best for high-ranking players.
Altombre confirmed that there were plans to remove Ascent from rotation, but this idea was abandoned. However, he emphasized that Ascent will not remain in rotation forever. Altombre also noted that significant map overhauls are not planned in the near future. Nevertheless, if necessary, Riot will not oppose significant changes.
At some point, we planned to rotate Ascent, and we talked about it here, but decided not to. I think if the map reached the point where we wanted to permanently remove it from the pool, we would probably just rework it and bring it to the point where instead, we would want to bring it back into the pool.
Patch 8.11 is expected to bring significant changes for duelists, as well as updates in map rotation.
