NRG Esports player FNS announces possible retirement after next season

The North American esports player FNS from NRG Esports recently mentioned during a stream that he may retire after the next season. FNS, known as one of the leading IGLs (in-game leaders) in the VALORANT discipline, stated that there is a 95% chance that the 2025 season will be his last in professional gaming.

Reasons for Leaving: "I Want to Do Something Different"

During the stream, FNS shared his thoughts about retirement, explaining that his decision stems from a desire to change his line of work:

Personally, I want to do something different. For my 20s and even into my 30s, I’ve been competing constantly. I sincerely hope I get the chance to try something new.
he noted

FNS added that with an increasing number of new talents in modern esports, he feels there is little sense in continuing his professional career as a player.

There are a lot of talents in America and around the world right now. It’s probably cool to watch other players. In such conditions, it just doesn’t make sense to continue my career.
he added

Success Story: From Counter-Strike to VALORANT

The 32-year-old FNS began his career playing Counter-Strike and transitioned to VALORANT in 2020. He achieved the greatest success in 2022 while competing for OpTic Gaming, winning the Masters Reykjavík tournament, placing third at Masters Copenhagen, and second at Champions 2022. After leaving OpTic and joining NRG, FNS helped the team secure fourth place at Masters Tokyo last year. However, he later left the team and took a break from the esports scene, returning to NRG only in the middle of the 2024 season.

Roster Changes at NRG and the Team's Future

NRG has also recently announced the departures of players Victor, crashies, and coach Chet, indicating a potential major reorganization of the roster. It is expected that the new core of the team will be built around FNS, s0m, and Ethan, while the return of Demon1, who spent much of the season on the bench, remains uncertain. Given that NRG has not qualified for the world stage this season, it will be interesting to see if FNS can lead the team back to the top in his final year.
