"Don't fix what isn't broken" - The head of the Valorant esports department responded to fans' calls to hold the championship by the "Swiss system"

In recent days on Twitter, the Valorant community began to reflect on the current tournament system. Among the notable figures who joined the discussion are Danish journalist Bo Hoogland and the SeulgiVLR portal. They propose holding the upcoming 2024 World Championship by the "Swiss system".

Following the appeal, the head of the esports department at Riot Games - Leo Faria - responded to such a proposal. He stated that the "Swiss system" is quite popular and has the right to exist, but definitely not in the case of the World Championship.

We love the Swiss system and want to experiment with it, but not at Champions. The "Champions" format is what fans almost unanimously love and it serves the tournament's purposes very well. So, you know: don't fix what isn't broken.

Remember that the "Swiss system" is a tournament system in which opponents with the same or nearly the same number of points meet in each subsequent round. Twitter users report that since Valorant usually has two matches in a row, adapting the "Swiss" will be impossible.

The vast majority of events in Valorant take place in two formats, GSL and round-robin. In the round-robin system, each participant plays with every other participant, while in the GSL, teams are divided into groups where the main selection for the playoffs takes place.
